Displaying Fields: stop automatic display of new fields in all views

Each time I create a new field, it gets automatically added to all table views. Can this be prevented? Its becoming quite cumbersome.

Greg - This is currently a tab setting:

Settings > Advanced tab settings > Freeze visible fields

There is an Idea posted here to generalise to file level:

Should probably also be accessible from Data > Manage fields

Note: this also applies to fields added implicitly by refreshing from an updated data source.
