Use of the K in data labels
  •     kmatrix999 December 18, 2009 1:18PM
Some clients find the use of the K (for 000's) confusing on graphs- specifically bar charts.

Is there an option to change this somewhere?

    At present, no.

We choose to use the same letters as used as prefixes for the ISO SI system of units (e.g. "k" in kg for kilogram).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI_prefix#List_of_SI_prefixes

We are unable to use more common letters such as "B" for billion, for example, because of the discrepancy between different countries for the long scale and short scale notation, where some countries consider a billion to be 10^9, and others 10^12, and Omniscope is designed for cross-language use.

We've noted your request, and will at some point look into making this configurable on a file-by-file basis, but we have not had any requests for this before now.

You can disable numeric abbreviation altogether in the Bar view using Options > Measures > Automatic numeric abbreviation.

Cannot find the "Automatic numeric abbreviation" option? Is there any other way to manipulate the data labels as the "k" for thousand is very confusing when there are thousands and millions on the same page.

In Omniscope 2.6, in the Bar view toolbar, click the "Measures" button. At the bottom of the menu, untick "Automatic numeric abbreviation".

In Omniscope 2.5, you cannot turn off numeric abbreviation, and can only make it non-standardised across bars, so one might say 5k and another 5M.

When will 2.6 be launched- is there a date available yet?

2.6 will be in public beta in the next few weeks, with release candidate and stable release in the following months.

Please vote for this feature "Customising the symbols used for numeric abbreviation in a given IOK file" to be added in the following post:
