I would also like to be able to change the symbols used for numeric abbreviation. In media we use M to be (000s) and MM to mean millions.

Be aware that in many countries (most European countries), "B" means 1 million million, rather than 1 thousand million. If you're publishing to these countries this could be an issue.

I would appreciate this functionality as well, 'G' for billions is not user friendly in the UK

From tonight (2.8 b706), you will be able to customise this behaviour in a given IOK file.

Please see "Settings > This file > Advanced file settings > Number abbreviations".

We have also changed the default behaviour for new files created after this date. Existing files will be unaffected.

In the UK, US and most English speaking countries, Omniscope will use:

0.000000001 (10^-9) = n
0.000001 (10^-6) = µ
1000 = K
1,000,000 (10^6) = M
1,000,000,000 (10^9) = B
1,000,000,000,000 (10^12) = T

I.e. "5B" will mean "5x10^9"

In all other countries it will use the prior international-friendly behaviour of the ISO SI symbols to avoid confusion in "long scale" countries where "B"/"Billion" actually means an English Trillion (10^12):

0.000000001 (10^-9) = n
0.000001 (10^-6) = µ
0.001 = m
1000 = k
1,000,000 (10^6) = M
1,000,000,000 (10^9) = G
1,000,000,000,000 (10^12) = T

I.e. "5G" will mean "5x10^9".

We hope these new defaults will mean you do not generally need to customise this setting in practice. But if you do - for example you are creating the IOK in the US but your recipient is in a French region - use the menu as above.
