Large Temp folder
  •     Alk January 27, 2011 9:26AM
Hello, it has come to my attention that the folder %Temp%\vo_bindiskcache3\ is currently 5.23GB on my computer and containing 634 files.

I am importing 6 MS Excel files into my iok, totalling 60mb and one DoubleClick feed. Is a temp size this large by design or a bug? I have been using Omniscope alpha versions only since early January and Omniscope is installed under my user profile.

I am currently using a Windows XP x32 machine and Omniscope 2.6 build 491.

Omniscope uses this cache to store temporary data when working with DataManager. Although each Excel file might only be a few megabytes, when stored in the cache they may be stored less efficiently, and each time you change a block's configuration, a new entry appears in the cache.

The cache is used to improve performance in DataManager, by preventing everything refreshing when you make small changes in a model you have re-opened. In future we may use the same caching framework to improve performance in other areas of Omniscope.

You can disable the cache by editing a configuration file if you want, but it isn't recommended (if you want to, I can give details). The size of the cache is currently limited at 20% of free space or around 5gb, whichever is smaller. This also can be customised. When full, old items are automatically expired when new items added.

You can clear the cache without disabling it using Settings > Advanced > Diagnose object cache > Reset. But it will slowly fill up again. There is no need to clear the cache or adjust its size. This function is primarily for debugging. The cache is not intended to be something a user needs to worry about.

If the cache does cause any specific problems, please post back here. It sounds like your cache is at capacity, so rest assured it won't get larger.

Okey, thank you Steve. I was worried of it continuing growing at the same rate which would have been a problem in the future (currently, its fine).

Seeing as you have considered this and limited the size, its fine.

Thank you for the prompt reply.
