Sources: OLAP Cubes & Excel PowerPIvot?

Hi - Excel PowerPivot is able to plot 1m plus rows of data.

Is it possible to piggy-back off Excel PowerPivot i.e run Omniscope off PowerPivot and thus enabling 1m + rows functionality in Omniscope?

Hi - Thanks for your question. We are planning to add the ability for Omniscope to import SQL Server Analysis Server (SSAS) cube data via Excel in the near future. This would make it much easier to import data from SSAS, since you wouldn't need to set up HTTP access as you do with the current Omniscope OLAP cube connector. It would also harness the Excel/PowerPivot optimisations.

I will post to this forum once it has been implemented. Please contact us directly if you require this feature urgently.

Omar -Have you tried setting up HTTP access as decribed in the instructions? What error message are you getting?

Have tried it chris and the link does,nt work for long time. It was very slow and then the connection broke. we would like a server connection rather than HTTP connected server. Is that possible?

Although the HTTP connection is slower than a direct connection we have still been able to retrieve several thousand in less than a minute. How many records are you trying to download? Also what do you mean by "the link doesn't work for long time"? Are you saying the connector stops working after a period of time? If so could you post a screenshot of the error message that is displayed.

    Thanks, Chris

    What is power pivot

From the Microsoft web site: "PowerPivot for Excel is an add-in to Excel 2010 that is used for adding and integrating large amounts of data in Excel workbooks. The data that you add to the workbook is stored internally, as an embedded PowerPivot database inside the .xlsx file."

You can use this database in Excel or in Power View reports. In Excel, the workbook provides all of the data visualization and interaction features. In other words, Excel visualisations and pivot tables.

PowerPivot workbooks can also be used as an external data source for live, ad hoc reporting in SharePoint using Power View. Power View is a premium Reporting Services feature that is part of the MS SQL Server 2012 release. It is a server-side report designer that is built into SharePoint.
