Kirsten- Omniscope files are currently single, 'flat' in-memory data structures which can be assembled from any number of diverse data sources, including (in version 2.6 DataManager) MDX/XMLA compliant multi-dimensional data sources or 'cubes', such as Microsoft SQL SSAS cubes. We believe that Omniscope is far superior to Excel for creating highly-visual, interactive reports from OLAP cube-based data sources.
Future versions of Omniscope could eventually support multiple in-memory 'flat' data structures, but support for MDX 'cube' functionality inside of Omniscope is not likely.
Multi-dimensional OLAP cubes generally run on their own servers (as does Microsoft SSAS) because the objective of analytical staging of data in 'cubes' is usually to speed ad-hoc query performance across many dimensions.
Tom - Thanks very much for this - sorry it's taken me so long to say thanks - was waiting to see if there were any follow-up questions, and didn't realise how time had passed! - Kirsten
