Refresh: Updating Webstart distributed data files?

Refreshing Omniscope dashboards in Web Start can be done by sending a new IOK file to all the users. However, is there a way that I can update the dashboard from one central location and have users log in to access them?

Through the Omniscope Online customisation page you can configure which file to open, entering the web link to the IOK file.
There is no need to send the IOK file, as the webstart configuration will allow you to start Omniscope Online loading the IOK file from the web link configured.

Is this the same as doing...
file > export > publish Omniscope file on "visokio.com"?

Shaji - No that option is for uploading your IOK file to our publically-hosted server so that you can send a normal link to the file, but your recipients must already have the free Viewer fully locally installed for that type of link to work.

Web Start/Omniscope Online is a special type of link called a JNLP link that downloads both your IOK data file AND a free Viewer at the same time, and this option installs the Viewer in a temporary space so that the user does not need a permanent install of the Viewer.

To create a JNLP link to deploy Omniscope via Web Start (Omniscope Online) please consult these pages:

Web Start refresh options are the same as deployments to permanaently installed Viewers. If you deploy an IOK file 'owned' by a ServerPlus license via Web Start, and you set the file to auto-refresh, then the data in the file will refresh in the free Viewer each time the master User IOK copy on the server is updated, even when the recipents' User IOK file(s) are open.

... providing the file has IOK source(s); refresh from CSV/database etc. is never supported directly by the free Viewer.

Thanks - I worked through the JNLP link builder but get stuck when it asks me to provide the link to my file. I want to upoad an iok file from our drives, but it appears as though I need to upload it prior to this point. If so, how do I do that?

You need a URL to your IOK file, so the IOK file has to be uploaded on a server (either Visokio public or private one) before customising Omniscope Online JNLP link.

Is there a wizard that allows me to upload to visokio public? I used the file export I mentioned above and then used that link for my iok file. However, when I download the jnlp file I get a java error. Is it worth while setting up a conference/video call so I can get this working?

Is the fact I've got Omniscope Desktop on my pc causing an issue when I try and open this in Omniscope webstart?

To share an IOK file, managed in a central location, you need to perform these steps:
    • Store the IOK file on a web server that allow HTTP connection (i.e. Apache , IIS).
    • Copy the URL address of the IOK file (i.e. http://yourserver.com/folder/file.iok )
    • Create the JNLP customised link through our web page http://tc.visokio.com/webstart/
      • Insert the IOK URL address in the "File to open" section
      • Click the Submit button and then decide whether:
        1. Share a link to a page containing the launch button
        2. Host the launch button yourself
        3. Download JNLP file and give it to your clients

Then, whenever you modify your IOK file in the central position (i.e. on a IIS web server) with Omniscope, users that use the JNLP file to launch the Viewer will be able to see the latest version of the shared IOK file (unless you delete or rename the IOK file on the web server).

Regarding the Java error when starting Omniscope Online through the JNLP file please see here

The aforementioned error - a bug with Java 7 - has been patched. See here:
