Database connections: SQL Server and Omniscope 2.7.350

I have been using SQL Server databases as inputs and outputs to DataManager blocks with no problems at all. I upgraded to 2.7b350 today and the DataManagers I have with SQL Server connections inside will no longer connect. In 2.6, by default when you add a data block, set it to SQL Server it sets the port to 1443 (in 2.7 it leaves it at 0). I set the connection parameters exactly the same as I do in 2.6 and I cannot connect to the server let alone get to the database. Has anything fundamentally changed with the database block in DataManager?

Data Manager Output Blocks

Hi Visokio,

I have created output blocks to save the .iok as an .pdf per the clients requirements. However once I automated the report using the scheduler I receive the following warning messages after the report is run:

What I find strange as 1. yes it does because I added it, and 2. it produces the pdf correctly and saves it down to the requested location. I am currently using 2.6 b771. Have you seen this behavior with the scheduler before?

Current selected filters value in formula field

Is there a way to use current selected filter values in formula fields?

This is the situation: the database is formed by records representing monthly income from different sellers.
There are many records for each month and for each seller, representing incomes from selling different kind of products.

In the filters users can select a range of months (es: from 1 to 3) and in a bar chart the corresponding sum of incomes for each seller for that range of months will be shown.

I'd like to add another view on which to show the perspective income for the whole year for each seller (calculated simply dividing the total income for the selected records for each seller by the number of months selected - in the example, 3 -and multiply it by 12)

In this way depending on the time interval filtered, different perspective incomes will be dinamically calculated.

So, I'd like to find a way to include into the formula the fact that I have selected only the records with months 1, 2 and 3.

Hi Visokio,

I am using 2.7 b278 and have been receiving a lot of java errors lately. Last week we had an out of memory issue, we forced Omniscope to use 1600MB via the config file. We still received an error 2 days ago, report re-runs fine. It seems to be an issue with the scheduler itself.

Today I came into the office to find the below chains failed off with another Java error, please advise?

Web View: Scale to Fit Problem

Hi Visokio,

I have created a web view in visokio that references an internal website hosted on SharePoint. The webview is of a .jpg picture which loads properly at 1st glance. If you turn "scale to fix" on the image will properly fit on the screen. If you refresh the report and open the tab it will show properly. However if you refresh the report, click on the tab ( it looks right), and then click off to another tab. Lastly come back to the web view, it will not look right. Please refer to the images below:

Image 1 shows the scale to fit turned on, but as you can see the picture is not scaling to fit.

Image 2 shows the scale to fit turned on, but the picture is fitting. This is the default view after refresh.

I would like the picture to look like image 2 all the time. It seems the scale to fix function is not properly refreshing the picture after you flip tab to tab.

Hi,

I have turned color keys on a standard "Graph" view. At the bottom of the chart you will see 4 boxes, however there are 5 lines. Please refer to the picture attached.

When I turn on the "key" option it will open a pop up with the color key. You will see 5 bars now. Please refer to the picture below:

I would like the 5 bars to show in the standard color key at the bottom. I am not sure why there is a difference. In this instance some of the data is no value, but I want end users to know that the line is no value. As you can see in the picture it would be easy to confuse with end users what this line represents as it is not labled.

URL Encode parameters in weblinks

I don't know if we can consider this as a bug but parameters in a weblink (used in a webview) are not url encoded and so lead to param errors when passing a string that contains special characters, like "&".

Twitter Merging Field limit

I have an issue with the Twitter Merging feed. When I try to import results for a subject that has over 1500 tweets per day (min time period in Omniscope), the results are not available - not even the first 1500 tweets on that subject.
Is there a way around it?

PDF output failure (2.7 rc333)

We have recently upgraded our server to Omniscope 2.7 rc333 from 2.6 and have encountered a problem.

The pdf output simply doesn't work on the server. I have created a new file and only attached a single PDF output in the data manager.
After pressing the publish button it stays in the following stage for a minute:

Then goes back to data manager screen without throwing any errors or outputting the file.

PDF output worked fine when server had 2.6 installed on it, and it works ok on our personal machines in both versions. I assume this has to do with the server configuration as well as Omniscope itself. Could you please help us troubleshoot the problem? What has changed between the versions in regards to PDF output?

URL output question

Hi, I had a question about the URL output function. From my understanding, I can use this option to do a simple ftp upload to my web server, where users can access the IOK file.

I have two questions regarding this:

1) can Omniscope create a weblink to my IOK file, similar to the way it does when I use the "publish on my.visokio.com" when I publish it to my website?

2) Is it possible to have a block that will output custom jar files to a web server?

Omniscope Hangs when changing name of new tab

Never had this problem before but today when trying to change tab name Omniscope hangs.

Using version: 2.7 build b333 1 May 2012

May possibly be caused by use of Thai script which has been used to name the tab being duplicated.
But problem also occurs with English script tab names.

Ordering Measures in a Bar View

I'm using 2.7 build 333 x 64. I have 33 measures in a bar view and I want to order then in descending value. The order function works for splits but doesn't seem to be available for multiple measures.

I could grab the measures usng the handles and manually order them, but I want to use this tab as a template for 30 other views, where the order will change each time.

Is there an option that I am missing?

Connectors: Facebook issue

In the last day or so there has been a problem with the Omniscope Facebook connector. You may have noticed that your connector stopped working. The Facebook connector should now be working again. This issue occurred caused because of some changes made by Facebook to the way that the Facebook applications can login and download information from the Facebook server.

Up to now after you connect for the first time you do not need to connect again unless you want to login as a different user or if you add a new Facebook block to your workflow. This will shortly change to a 60-day expiry on your login. This means that you will need to re-connect in your Facebook block after 60 days in order for you to continue to be able to download data.

We will be adding some status information to the Facebook block that will let you know how much time is remaining before you need to login again.

Filter No Value in a view

Since the below shown bar graph view has appended files from different sources, the no value bar gets shown. I cannot a do a common filter or create a common query for this because of the different sources. The metric selector has six different metrics and lets say few of the metrics have different sources and hence if I filter out no value for one metric, I will be filtering all the available data for another metric because as I said the the data is all appended. So, please suggest me how to hide or remove "No Value" values from the view. Thanks

Prevent Category-Colors from changing

Dear Visokio-Team and Users,

I made some changes to the category-colours for my category-field by editing the colours in the menu:

Data > Manage fields > Options > Value order, colour

Now, by editing the category-name later, the colours are changing again. Also by simple refreshings for the data, all of my colouring work is gone and the colours changed again.

Is there a way to "save" my edited colour-settings for the categories?

As Antonio suggested in the above discussion, I tried "Tools > Alignment / empy data buckets" and select "No alignment / Hide empty data buckets". But it didn't work. I am still getting no value data in the view.

I'm looking into the possibility of using your software to establish a user and computer floor plan model. We have floor plans that we maintain manually using MS Paint and Adobe Photoshop. We would lke to automate the floor plans from data stored in our inventory system. Do you have any examples of such an application using your software. We wish to have changes to the inventory database be reflected in floor plans where in when one places the cursor on the doghouse into which the computers are connected all kinds of information on the computer and the user will be shown in a balloon / box near by.

Coloring stacked bar chart

Hi,

I need a little help.

I have a stacked bar chart showing adspend. It is splitted by years and stacked by advertisers. Advertisers number reaches 80-90 by years, so I made Omniscope to show only the top 9 advertisers in detail and the others together.
I'd like to use special coloring in case of the top 9 advertisers, I mean I'd like to color their bars into corporate color. Is there any possibility to do it?
As I have a lot of advertisers, the filter type is restricted to 'text search' and 'point slider', and I can not change it to list of categories which would allow me to use those colors which I need.

Could you please help me?

Data Subset

Hi Visokio,

When building out bar/line views on a single tab; I have created 6 different views. I created this report a few weeks ago using 2.7 b296. I setup some of the views to use the Data Subset menu > Query > Custom Query Type is PTS. What this acomplished is that when you click on data on another chart, the data will NOT change in the chart using a query. The only charts that change are the charts using Filtered Data IN.

It appears that the QUERY functionality is not working in this version. Can you confirm if this has been corrected in a later build as I was unable to find any comments on this in the forums.

Picture one shows that I am using the Query filter.

Picture two shows that when I select data in another chart, the data in picture one changes. I would expect this to not change.

Can you confim if I am using this functionality correctly?

Cartesian product - Merge many-to-many

Hi -

I'm using 2.7-beta b323 and want to do a cartesian product/many-to-many merge but can't get it to work. As an example, I have a table [Product] with 5 records, representing 5 products, and another table [Sites] with 20 records, representing store locations. What I'm looking for is each combination of product x site, 100 records. Later, I want to insert them into a database table.

I have a merge/join block with these two tables as input and I can see where there's "allow many:many" check box. I tried removing the join criteria and I get an error that I need a join criteria (however, it does indicate that I'd get 100 records). I also tried to merge on arbitrary fields like Productname and Sitename, which I know will be different, but that results in zero records.

Sorry in advance if I missed this on the knowledge base somewhere. I looked but did not see anything. Thanks!

email outputs from datamanager - only when there is content

We are running 2.7 server edition, and have set up a job to check a couple of data files for duplicate records. If any are found, we want the problem records to be emailed to somebody. We filter the data down to just the duplicate records, and then use an Email output block at the end of the datamanager. We have ticked the "autopublish" box, and left the "auto-publish empty recordsets" box empty.

If we open the datamanager, it works - an email goes out if there is a problem, but no email goes out if the file has no duplicates.

Then we set this job up to run under Scheduler, added a "Publish Output Blocks" task to the schedule, but now the email goes out every time, even when there are no records to send. It looks as if the Scheduler task is ignoring the option to NOT publish empty recordsets.

Is there another way to do this with Scheduler?

Bar Graph - Rounding

If I have all of my data for a certain category in fractions and I set the "Decimal places when abbreviated" to zero, it shows up as 200m, 300m etc (The original values are 0.2, 0.3). Ideally, I would like no bars to be shown, but since they do, is it possible to just round these values to zero. If I have a single value >= 1 , then they show up right.

This issue is not solved yet. I am still facing it. I add a variable option to one graph, it simple reflects in other graphs to no matter how I apply them. Is there an option where I could do the following operation "This menu this tab". All the other options that you have given doesn't help me to fix this issue. Parameter in DM Record Filter

I have set up a date parameter in DM and used it in a record filter. The DM view is exposed in final presentation with the parameters there for user to change.

When parameter is change, the filter successfully re-executes and downstream blocks are updated, but the final block linked to Omniscope doesn't automatically load to omniscope so need to go to full DM view and click load on last block to get view updated. Can this final load be done automatically?
(Don't want to do a full update as this requeries database and that is not necessary)
