Data Manager

    Hi,

I am using data manager as a method of making daily reporting more efficient. I normally use the "concatenate" formula in excel (not omniscope) before then importing these sheets into omniscope.

So, I have a field organiser that deletes columns i dont need which are automatically generated from our customer. I see in here i can input a new field and set this as a formula- but what is the omniscope equivalent to Excels concatenate? Alternatively I know it is possible to merge columns together (product description, variety, pack size etc).

Finally, is there a function to delete off ROWS? I get the first 22 as a summary of what ive downloaded and want to delete this.

    thanks

    mike

Mike - If you have Desktop Edition with the DataManager workspace, your data file source block enables you to skip importing any rows you don't need and to customise almost everything else about your import from Excel. You do not need to do any formulas in Excel because they can all be added in post-import as new Omniscope formula fields using Add new field as a formula option at the bottom of a field organiser block. For example, if your Excel columns include First Name and Surname, you can combine these into one text field (with a blank space between first and last names) in Omniscope using the very simple syntax for concatenating two text fields:

    [First Name]+" "+[Surname]

You can do this on a larger scale to reduce column count using operations like Summarise fields and Collapse values.

Omniscope also supports very sophisticated regular expressions text processing/filtering formulae that can read and re-write the text in your data to improve sorting, filtering, bucketing etc. to simplify other formulae (and text mining) and increase visual impact of patterns in the text strings.

There are several ways you can configure which rows you want to import. When importing data click the "Select table data..." button to choose which rows or columns you want to include.

You can also use the "Record filter" operation. Add a rule "Accept all records where Record number > 22" to delete the first 22 records.
