"colored differences"
  • alixcolpal June 14, 2011 6:57AM
In a pivot table you now have the possibility to color the difference column. But when I activate this option the difference column is all colored in grey, how can I adjust the colors (red for negative growth, green for positive growth)?
    Thank you!

Alix - Please check some settings:

Pivot View: View Tools > Coloured differences is ticked?

Pivot View: View Tools > Color relative to... is not set to None?
  • alixcolpal June 15, 2011 8:56AM
Yes, "color relative to" is set to none, and colored differences is ticked.
But all the differences are coloured in grey.

Wait... now they are coloured in red and blue but with very few contrast. Is there a way to select the middle color and middle value?

For differences, no. I'm afraid they normalize the color range such that the largest and smallest values spread across the configured color range (in Style > Data colors), and this includes the totals - hence the faint colours.
This has already been requested - please vote:

Quick question on the coloring of cells in Pivot View. I changed the cell colors from the default to something that looked more like a heat-map, but now I cannot remember or find where you can edit those values. Thanks.

There are several places you can configure colors:

    - Data > Style > Data colors (global color settings)
    - Data > Manage Fields > some field > Options > Value colors (field-specific coloring, such as mapping a numeric field to a 3-point color scheme)
    - Pivot view Tools menu > many menus for color options

You might also be looking for the option "show values" which, if unticked, shows cells as empty blocks of background colour without any text values.

Hi Steve, Is it possible to add your company color schema to it(Version - 2.6). Is there a document on the visikio website?

    Omar -

Colour control is divided into managing data colouring within views, which depends on the data-typing of the colour-by field, and setting the overall colouring for the various non-data display aspects of the file, which can be fully designed to exactly match corporate colours, fonts, etc, and saved in empty templates, and made portable between installations as explained here:

    http://www.visokio.com/kb/style-presets-sharing

To manage overall appearance, data colouring should be kept somewhat compatible with the overall application style as defined. When you define a Colour by setting for a particular view or the entire Tab, the colour managment will depend on the data typing of the field you are choosing to Colour by:

Numeric or Date/Time data fields: If the Colour-by field is a continuous numeric or data field, the setting will be according to:

Style: Data Colours > {Continuous} > Edit start middle and End colour (or pick a pre-defined scheme)

Category data fields: If the Colour-by field has been data-typed a Category (Text field with less than about 250 unique values) the colours are assigned to each value in the field using:

Data > Manage fields > Options > Value order, colour

If the Colour by field is Text…then there is an internal algorithm which you can control somewhat by changing the settings in

    Style: Data Colours > {Categories} > Edit…

There are also options to set colours at Field (rather than value) level for measures in the Bar View, for example.
