Can a user import their own maps in the Map View? For Example, can we use a UK TV region map to overly data on top? Is this possible?

Indranil - yes, any image can be imported and used as a map background:

File > Open Map > Browse for image file

The same functionality is available in the from:

Map View: View Toolbar: Map > Browser for image file

On the same Map View Map dialog, you will see the option to calibrate the map (use a source like Google Earth to find exact geo-coordinates of two points in opposite corners of the image map, then use the menu option Projection: Override by setting two reference points.

Once you have imported the backdrop image and set the projection based on the known coordinates of two corner points, Omniscope will plot coordinate data on the image automatically. You can place record markers manually and fine tune placements from the Map View by placing the mouse in Place marker Mode and moving/placing the markers with the mouse.

Map View: View Toolbar > Mode > Place Marker mode

See the Ideas section for discussion of future plans for the Map View.
