Im trying to merge downwards (concatenate) historical data by day which has the exact same column headings as a present days worth of data. The present days data is in a new omniscope layout which i have made- the only difference being that the file i am importing data into has a few extra columns to the right with which i have made fomulas (to calculate revenues, lost sales etc).
The problem comes when concatenating, because omniscope then creates 21 new colums to the right of the new formula ones i have created (instead of going in the columns to the left of these formula fields). I would have thought Omniscope could recognise and match up the column headings and put the imported data in the correct cells)
Wondering if theres a fix around this? Im not keen on copying and pasting the merged cells into the right position and then deleting the empty redundant cells over and over again hundreds of times.
Also, is there a way of quickly copying whole columns with Formulas in so that you dont have to keep "inserting->new field after this"? in the same way you can in Excel. Its a bit of a pain having to insert and then name the fields and then convert to formula field and then copy in the formula etc..
In Omniscope 2.5 when you select the "Concatenate" option the data from any columns that have exactly the same name should be appended at the bottom of the existing columns. Are you selecting the "Concatenate" option? If so would it be possible for you to post a sample of both datasets?
You can create duplicates of existing fields by right-clicking on the field in the Table view and selecting "Tools>Create duplicate of this field...". The formula should be retained in the duplicate.
We have greatly improved all of this functionality in Omniscope 2.6. The Merge/Join has been split into two separate operations and you have the ability to duplicate fields in a batch in the Field organiser. The DataManager workspace also makes it easier to maintain an operation workflow.
