I was wondering if it is possible to carry out a VLookup type command across a range of Omniscope files. I report three files daily, and have data stored for 40 plus days now. What i would like to do with this data is to use VLOOKUP to trend and track how certain products have performed over time, without having to export 40 files of which there are 3 a day (so about 120 exports into excel, which then means saving them etc etc). Our customers system does not hold historical data, which is why i have been saving each file per day
Mike - Omniscope usually arranges time series data 'vertically' i.e. repeated observations over time are rows, not columns. The Omniscope De-Pivot operation can change the orientation of your data automatically and store it in very compact IOK format. If you store your 'vertically' oriented daily or weekly 'timeslice' IOK files in a folder, you can use the Desktop Edition Batch Append data connector to automatically append/combine all the timeslice files and show the trends to date in another IOK file.
If you have a Server Edition, you can automate the entire process of accessing the source, timeslicing and storing a growing archive of time series data in IOK files, often aggregated to 52 weekly rows or 356 daily rows per year with aggregation functions and formulae transforming all the column values. The Server Edition can also automate distribution of the IOK trend reports with the product range and number of timeslices/length of the time series personalised to each recipient's own IOK file.
Hi Mike, there are a number of points to address here, around how Omniscope behaves differently to excel. From discussions, you will need to get to grips with the basics of storing 'time-series' data, and merging (joining or concatenating) new sets of data.
There are a number of options for how to do this, and I will talk you through the best one once I have seen the data that you are collating.
There are a number of other beginner videos in the series, and all of the basic and advanced techniques are taught on the Atheon 'Introduction to Omniscope' 1 day training course.
