Flooded maps
  • Pascal     Pascal April 5, 2011 5:09PM
I noticed that maps are quite off, resulting in a lot of cities being "flooded" or "at sea".
Do you know why that is and what to do to correct it?
    Thank you.

I take it you are using the "World, detailed" vector map. Please switch back to using the default world map which has better accuracy.

However these vector maps are not designed for high levels of zooming in (further than individual countries). Instead please use the online maps in 2.6. If you're still using 2.5, please upgrade - check Inbox at the top for the link.

Ok, I tried and it works perfectly.

So, since now I use an online map, instead of provide the longitude and latitude and since I have the street/zip code/city/state/country information, is there a way I can use these information instead of the coordinates with the online map in Visokio?

You're talking about geocoding, which will take time for a large amount of data. Use the new functions GEOCODELAT and GEOCODELON here: http://www.visokio.com/kb/functions-guide#GEOCODELAT
But expect formula recalculation to be slow. Once geocoded, switch your formula to static data.

I tried to applu geocoding to about 3500 addresses. I first use yahoo as it is the defualt provider but now I can't connect to their service. I then switched to google but it only translated about 500 addresses out of 3500, although quite fast. I then found that their is a limit of 1000 geocoding per day on their service.
I finally switched to cloudmade but it's been running for 30mns already and it looks like the % in data manager is stuck at 71%.
How do you suggest I geocode my 3500 addresses?
    Thank you.

Pascal - Omniscope provides links to various free services, and is the best tool for reconciling often differing results. However, free services have their limitations and sometimes restrictive business models. We do not recommend relying on just one source, as described here:
