DataManager: "Cannot Access File" error?
  • SteveP May 4, 2010 9:44AM
At the end of a DataManager procedure which merges several files, we want to publish the result to an existing file.

If we run the procedure and publish to a brand new file, it works perfectly.

Once that file is there, and we try to re-run to publish to the same file, using the "Use target file view configuration" option, we get the following error -

    "Publishing error
    Cannot Access File
The file you are trying to access is currently locked by elsewhere inside Omniscope. Please try again.
Could not obtain lock within timeout 60000ms"

The target file is definitely not open anywhere.

Any ideas what the problem might be? We are currently using 2.6 b236

    Thanks, Steve

    Steve,

This is a bug which should be fixed before the production release.

    Thanks for reporting it.

We're not yet near production release. It should be fixed during the next 2 months.

    This problem is intermittent, correct?

Thanks for the update. I've never had it work for me so far. Will keep trying.

We'll try to prioritise this issue.

    Steve,

Apologies for the delay in responding. We're still in alpha, focusing on completing feature development, and your issue is one of many we still need to look into.

We have been unable to reproduce this problem and would like to close the issue unless you can reproduce it using the most recent version of Omniscope 2.6 from the daily builds page.

If you can still reproduce the problem, please try the attached test. Download and unzip. Open the main IOK, configured to publish to "testout.iok" every second. You should see the publishing occur every second (but if you don't have an Enterprise license you will need to click Publish yourself). Make sure no other Omniscope windows are open. Do you get the problem with this test (we don't)?

If so, please tick "Settings > Advanced > Miscellaneous > Report recognised errors as bugs", reproduce the problem, and send the error report when prompted, then untick this setting. Please post back here, either way.

    Steve,

I am also seeing this error with a TXT and other IOK files on server shares

Load the data block, preview ok and then cannot load into Omniscope with error File Not Found.

    I am using 2.6 build 477 (Alpha x64)

You should upgrade to at least 2.6 b481 because there was a bug in earlier versions including yours which caused erroneous "file not found" errors.
