Linux: Ports in Red Hat flavour?

Hi - is anyone using Omniscope Server 2.9 on Red Hat rather than Ubuntu?

We have it installed but can't work out how to get the default port bound to the correct port number. At the moment we have to use the syntax https://mysevber.com:portnum where we really just want users to go to https://myserver.com.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Hello Andrew,

On Linux you cannot bind as user to reserved port (range 1-1024).

Here are 2 workarounds:

1) Setting up Linux IPTABLES to redirect port 80 to omniscope 8080 default port? https://www.frozentux.net/iptables-tutorial/iptables-tutorial.html#REDIRECTTARGET

2) use "setcap" (capabilities are available on RedHat ) See here http://stackoverflow.com/a/414258
