Idea: Passing Parameters/Variables inside URLs?

As the web server evolves it would be great to have variables and parameters implemented in such a way that the values could be passed as part of the URL for the report page - that would open almost unlimited drill down and data flow possibilities.

At the moment we have implemented our first web report with a link to Microsoft SQL reporting services - we use the Omniscope report for top level view of a group of accounts then a linked field on the user account number to allow direct access to the SRSS report which shows all transactions on the account going back up to 10 years. Embedding report parameters in the URL effectively makes all data linkable within the scope of the designers imagination!

You're effectively describing a web/Omniscope Mobile equivalent of the desktop app's "parameter passing", where you have two IOK sessions linked.

It's a great idea, whether to create this effect, or simply to allow customisation of Mobile reports using link parameters.

A related idea we're planning is to allow the username (HTTP auth, and in future from ActiveDirectory) to influence the Mobile report - such as:
    - available tabs (e.g. targeting different kinds of users, or different Mobile devices)
    - available fields (according to permissions/seniority),
    - row/record subsets (e.g. different client data)
    - name of database table
    - arbitrary DataManager parameters
    - formula variable values

Note that we may also experiment in the medium term with having multiple data sources within the same Mobile IOK file. So you might have one view of table X and another of table Y, either independent, or following some kind of join-based rules for synchronised filtering.

    Steve,

Is there any news on this topic?

Not yet - it's on the medium term list and as such any earlier work will most likely be driven by specific and pressing demand.

Meanwhile, it would help if you and Bernard could describe in more detail the scenario you would each want. What aspects of an IOK file would be customised by 'web parameters'? How would these be supplied (URL query parameters, LDAP / other authentication mechanism, within-IOK by matching a username to a list of 'profiles')? How urgent is this request, if at all?
