I am unable to connect in a database block to my SQL Server. Server running on local machine. Port 1433 and TCP/IP enabled. Antivirus software disabled. SQL Browser service running. Tried Windows & SQL Authentication. Neither works. I have no problem connecting with SQL Management Studio. Get the following error:

    Database error
An error occurred connecting to or querying the database.
    Unknown server host name 'SIERRADEV\SQLEXPRESS'.

    Detailed information
Unknown host: The server you are accessing does not exist or is not currently accessible.
    SIERRADEV\SQLEXPRESS

    Hi,

Thanks for the question. The host refers to the name or the IP-Address of the PC. Please try entering "SIERRADEV" as the host name. Please let us know the error message you get if that doesn't work.

Thanks. After putting SIERRADEV as the host name and then SQLEXPRESS as the instance name, it connected great!
