Formulae: Evaluated references to field names in a formula?
  •     bfromson1 December 18, 2012 8:30AM
Is there a simple way to refer to a field indirectly within a formula:

    for instance:

I have fields X1, X2, X3, X4 and another field with an integer value, say Y
Is there an easy way to reference field XY in a formula?

    Thanks, Bernard

Bernard - Omniscope does support evaluated, parametric or variable-driven field names in formulae using the REFVAL function.

That said, however, if you change the data orientation using a DePivot operation, the horizontal fields X1, X2 etc will become vertical Pivot Series and their Pivot values, including the other Y value should be included in the vertical Pivot Values field. Changing everything to row values would givve you even more options and make the problem more tractable...

The REFVAL function retrieves a field or variable value by a text name value, which can be dynamically determined by a sub formula.

    Awesome.

Why do I ever doubt that there is anything Omniscope can't do!
