Installation: Need Excel installed on Server machine?

Hello - We currently do not have MS Office installed on the server were Omniscope sits. Is it required to have Office installed in order to read Excel files for import via Omniscope? What limitations can we expect if we use just the Omniscope reader? We aren't really looking to view the Excel file outside of Omniscope.

Hi,

You do not need Excel installed to read Excel files. Omniscope comes with three different Excel readers: "Excel as text", "Excel direct" and "Omniscope". The "Omniscope" reader does not require Excel to be installed.

There will be small differences in the data depending on which reader you use. The "Omniscope" reader may not be able to deal with certain Excel configurations (for example some formulas or complex formatting). The "Omniscope" reader also needs to load the entire Excel spreadsheet into memory prior to importing into Omniscope.

In the majority of cases the "Omniscope" reader is fine to use.
