Hi, I am using the formulas Geocodelat and Geocodelon to find the X and Y coordinates of some world cities. As far as i understand the input we give to the formulas is a location field which is a text field and can be forulated such as (Postcode, City, Country) or (City, Region) for example. The problem is that there does not seem to be a way to define which fields you are using and the result is that the web based geocoding application (Yahoo) often treats my country name as the city name and I get sites located on the wrong side of the world. As an example, I have a site with the location (Rangel, Angola) where Rangel is the city and Angola is the country. The geocoder locates this to Indiana, USA as there is a city called Angola in Indiana.
Is there a way to tell it the the first field (before the comma) is the city and the second field (after the comma) is the country?
Hi Darren, It might be a good idea to separate Postcode/City/Country field into 3 fields, and then use one of our merge files to add coordinates. On merge you will get few mis-matches, that you can fix manually. Please make sure that in the Merge operation block you leave in the mismatches from your location list.
Hi Paola, I am already using the merge files and was using the formulas only to clear up the sites that were not found in the merge file. So I assume there is no way of defining what fields form the Location field.
Hi Darren, Location for GEOCODExxx functions can be town, postcode, country, area, or combination of all 4 in one field. I tried using following values in [Location] field, and apart from Chile (which ended up in sea near Chile), all other locations were placed successfully on the map: London SW3 3NR, UK 55 Markham street, london, england Chile Alaska Bern, Switzerland zagreb sofia bogota devon, england
