Scheduler: workaround for MS Office applications read/write issues

This only applies if you are running the Scheduler as a Windows service.

If you have Excel sources in your DataManager workflow, and the Reader type for the file block is Excel rather than different Omniscope Reader, then you may encounter the following problem (found in the Scheduler log):

Microsoft Office error
Error communicating with Application. Please try again. Check for solutions here: http://www.visokio.com/kb/scheduler-troubleshooting
Invoke of: Open
Source: Microsoft Excel
Description: Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:\Users\Visokio\Desktop\file.xlsx'. There are several possible reasons:

• The file name or path does not exist.
• The file is being used by another program.
• The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.

Possible solution, suggested on the msdn forum, is to create the following folders:
- C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
- C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop

If the above workaround does not work, then change the reader type to "Omniscope".

Thanks for that - I have noticed that if you use the Omniscope reader, you may come across problems with date fields....

Hi,

There may be slight differences in the data that's read in using the different readers, however you should be able to resolve these problems using a "Field organiser" operation. If you come across any specific issues using the Omniscope reader please let us know.

For other people's benefit, if you are have Scheduler running as Windows Service and you have publish to PowerPoint in your DataManager workflow, then you may notice that the published PowerPoint is never published, if this happens then try the solution mentioned above by Antonio.
