Additional options with query

    Hi guys,

    2 requests!

Firstly - with the "create query" option, you can do either filters or selection, however selection isn't the "true" selection as it takes the filters provided as well (for example, I've got a nhs dataset with mutiple sources (a+e episodes, hospital stays) and I want to filter and look at just people with multiple a+e admissions in the last 6 months - when I've done this, I want to create a query of these individuals (literally just the nhs numbers) - if I do this by aggregating a table view by nhs number, select them all, create query from selection, it will add all of them to the query but also add the filters - is it possible to have the option to ONLY add the selected data?)

Secondly - is it possible to have the option to create queries in data manager?

Firstly - good idea. Currently you would have to reset first.

    Secondly - to what purpose?

    Thanks Steve,

First point - I don't think this is possible at the moment without exporting the query and changing the xml (Mustafa and I discussed this earlier - you will always have an filters applied as well as the selection you are making on nhs number within the created filter - if you hit reset obviously you lose what you've filtered in the view).

Second point - I don't have one at present and to be honest you're probably right in questioning this - I think it's probably a redundent request, please ignore!

I've reclassified this as an idea - to be able to create queries from "selection only" as opposed to "selection intersected with filters".

This is actually very easy to implement, providing we explain the option clearly using simple, short and concise terminology.

Note that the view containing your selection might be configured with any "Subset" options in the view toolbar:
    • All data
    • or filtered data
    • or filtered out data
    • and/or intersected with a named query
    • perhaps de-queried.

So perhaps the menu items would read:
    • "Create query for selected data" (current behaviour when you have a selection - honouring view "subset" options)
    • "Create query for filtered data" (current behaviour when you don't have a selection)
    • "Create query for selection applied to all data" (your request)

    That sounds great, thanks.

Any chance we can add in to 2.7 if easy?

No chance - sorry. 2.7 is frozen. It will be 2.8 at the earliest.

This has been implemented in 2.8, which will be available in a few weeks to alpha partners.
