Comment box per field in Omniscope

Just like the commentbox in DM blocks.

For people that use an Omniscope dashboard, but haven't developed it, it might be difficult to understand a field's content. Having the option of showing a comment per field helps a user. The Help pop-up is not sufficient for this purpose.

    Hi,

You can specify comments for each field. Select "Data>Manage fields" then click on the "Options" dropdown for the field you want to add comments for and select "Field notes".

    Thanks Chris,

This works okay, but it would be better in case it works similar as in DM.
Now a user needs to hover over a fieldname to find out whether or not a comment is available. When in DM a comment is added, a user can see this immediately.

Especially for fields that are based on complex calculations, it is useful to support it with a comment.

Where would you show the field notes? Can you post an annotated screenshot?

Attached. Just like the commentbox in DM.
Only in Table view and Details table.

OK, so the suggestion is we have an icon in the table view header, and in the details view (and probably anywhere else relevant), to indicate that there are comments, and you can click on that icon to view/edit the comments.

I'm reclassifying this as an idea, please vote if you want it to be implemented.

Field Notes can be made much more useful and powerful:
    In Datamanager:
    a. Enter/edit field notes individually by field in field organiser
    b. Read the "Comment" in excel cells (in the header row) automatically to generate the field notes
    c. Ability to load a "field notes.txt" file consisting of field name, field notes pairs that populate the field notes of all of the fields
    d. Export field notes so that they can be edited in a batch and reimported as a batch

    In Explorer:
    a. Turn on field notes in the tool tips of all of the views so that when you hover over a measure the field notes show alongside the field name: "field name: field notes"
    b. Similar hover behaviour but only on the field names of the filters
    c. Turn on field notes in details view as a static view, not requiring hover
    d. Blue Sky. It would be nice to have a view that shows the field notes only for the measure selected. Kind of like a selection subset of a detail view but which only shows the field being selected (and the field notes associated with it). This way very clean dashboards can be created with a small blank spaces that populate with the notes applicable to the fields being selected by the user.

    - on a related note: Option to show in tool tips in each view, the formula itself for formula fields.
