Master data management & versioning

    Hi Guys,

How do you guys deal with versoning? We have many teams per deivision that deal with analysis. I have created each an IOK file so that I can ensure they are all working from the same data. Howerver if two people from the same division open the same IOK file at the same time, one of them is going to lose charts or work they have done analysing the data. Any one got any ideas?

    Thanks, Dave

So you have two or more people simultaneously authoring the same file?

We deal with this by making sure you cannot save over someone else's work. This is similar to Excel, which also prevents two people concurrently authoring. But while Excel locks the file and prevents two Excel instances from opening it, Omniscope allows this but warns if you are about to save over a file which has since been modified by someone else.

We don't provide any means to automatically merge one person's arbitrary configuration changes with another's. How could Omniscope tell which settings to take?

You might be better having each user save their own copy of the file, configured to refresh from a "master" IOK file on a server. Data will be centrally sourced, but each user gets to create whatever views and analyses they want.
