How can I get notification when latest jar is available to download? Does Visokio have auto email notification to users?

It's not so much a issue that needs attention, just a link to instructions on how to enable NPAPI in Chrome as since version 42 of Chrome, it stops running .jnlp automatically and stopped the Launch button from.

It works in Firefox but it has a specific error which appears warning against Java and apparently not an issue with IE either.

File security: Password entry attempts?

Is it possible to allow for password retries when an incorrect attempt is made instead of it closing and requiring you to reopen the file, it's mainly with Web Starts where you have the reloading starting all over again. I don't think there's a notice either that highlights if capslock is on when you're entering the password.

Deployment: Webstart redirects to Java download site?

Hi all,

On several of our computers we encounter the same problem when using webstart. We have our own webstart file, so we also tested the Webstart button on the Visokio site. Both result in the following problem.

When clicking on the launch button, we are redirected to the java download site. Computers that have this problem hava Java 8 update 31 installed.

Please advise on what to do? Is there a new jar file available?

By the way, we are aware of problems and warnings within Omniscope using Java 8, but we would expect Omniscope to open.

Filtering: Category field in Desktop shows as Text field in (Web Start) Viewer?

Hi all,

We publish a dashboard to one of our clients using a template that we save elsewhere using the Scheduler. In the file action we have the following steps:
- Refresh from source
- Unlink from source
- Save IOK

In the source file the field is a Category type. In the template the field is also a Category field.
After the Scheduler action I opened the saved IOK file, and the field is (as expected) a Category field.

However if we deploy the same file using Web Start, the Java free Viewer opens to show the field as a Text field with an "search text" filter option.

This behaviour seems to be new, but I am not sure since when. How can we show this field as a Category filter even when we deploy in free Viewer using Java Web Start?

Deployment: Java Web Start issues with version 5.1 update?

Java installations on recipient machines that do not have free Viewers fully installed have been updated to version 5.1 and is causing problems with Omniscope files & Viewers being deployed using Java Web Start.

Our users get errors and their iok files aren't launched. Probably the jar file must be updated?

Can you please have a look asap as this is causing serious delivery problems for us

Hi,

We have not been able to run the webstart jnlp file with Java update 51.
We can however run the webstart jnlp file with Java update 45 or lower.

Has anyone experienced any similar problems since the latest Java update?

Slide show: Display compressed pictures using Web Start?

We have an IOK file with pictures in it. When compressing the pictures (via the Save as menu) and opening the file via Web Start, the slide show option displays errors. When saving the same file without the compression, the slide show does work via Web Start. When opening the compressed file locally, the slide show also works.

Can you please have a look?

I'm not sure if this is intended or not but the webstart link builder doesn't work to launch a file if you have the file on a dropbox folder or Google drive.

It's not a major issue as I've found github to be a viable alternative.

Installation: auto-update pop-up in Web Start?

Hi there,

We use 2.7 and will upgrade to 2.8 when it is 100% stable. However, we and our clients receive an update pop-up message about updating to 2.8 when opening iok files via webstart.

You can imagine this is confusing for people as they are not concerned with omniscope versions, that is our role. Is there a way to turn this message off?

FYI, Web Start is installed/hosted on our own server.

Web Start: Viewer export from enabled IOK files?

When exporting from a view in 2.8 web start with 'allow export' turned on, you are unable to select a 'save as type' so the only way you can do it is from 'File' -> 'Export'

I've been trying to create a web start launch link to .iok files on a website and I've successfully managed to create a download link to access the file through a URL that looks like:

http://client.dev.domain.com/download/?m=[guid]&u=[int]&c=[int]

The above URL lets me directly download the file from the browser. The mimetype of the file is application/octet-stream.

When I try and use this URL in the online webstart link builder I get the following error:

Unrecognised or unsupported file "http://client.dev.domain.com/download/?m=[guid]&u=[int]&c=[int]". You may need to upgrade your software or purchase a key and activate. Please check our website at www.visokio.com.

I use an Apache web server (version 2.2), and use mod_xsendfile to serve up the file for download.

It would be great if you could provide some guidance as to what is missing or wrong.

Hello, -Some of our clients who are using Apple laptops are encountering problems to open our Web Start deployed dashboards.

When the client clicks on the "Launch" Button the Web Start and JNLP Files are downloaded, but there the free Viewer application is not starting?

We tried hosting the Web Start deployments from both our server and the Visokio server. But neither did result in any differences.

Do we have to change settings for Apple users? Could this problem be connected to Java updates? What options regarding solutions do we have?

Good Morning - I'm trying to use a specific font that is not one of 4 fonts used by default, and even though the font works well in the Desktop and Full viewer edition, it doesn't work with the Online Universal version. Any reason why this would be?

Web Start: Now supports Web Views (2.8+)

Available from version 2.8 b268, Omniscope Web Start has been updated to fully support the Web view in all the main OS platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux/Unix)

Using the Omniscope Online customisation page, users can decide whether to include a fully working Web view (through the "Support full Web view" option).

Note that if the option is ticked, the total size of the download will increase, due to the weight of the libraries used to provide the native browser integration.

We've recently had an update of our desktop software and, since then, I haven't been able to run my reports with WebStart. I get an error message:

Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system
Unsigned resource: http://downloads.visokio.com/omni27...

I don't pretend to understand the detailed message, but it contains the lines:

which looks like the sort of thing that would give our IT Risk people a major problem. Is there really a requirement for "*all* permissions" on my machine?

Edit 3rd Dec: I've spoken with some support people here and, although they weren't able to help directly, they mentioned that the "Unsigned" parts of the error message (newly highlighted above) may cause a problemwith our systems here.

Edit 5th Dec: Fwiw, the aforementioned "update of our desktop software" contained the following: Upgrade JRE to the new version 6u33

There is a known problem with launching Omniscope Online (Web Start) if your system has Java 7 installed.

You will see "Java(TM) Web Start Launcher has stopped working". Expanding "Problem details" and looking for "Exception Code" matching "c0000417" will confirm this issue.

The problem is caused by a bug in Java 7. You should revert to Java 6, until this issue is resolved.

Alternatively, edit the JNLP file (e.g. in notepad) and remove the "codebase" attribute of the "jnlp" tag. If you are launching from our website, you will need to download and edit the JNLP file. If you are hosting your own JNLP file, you should edit the file on the webserver. This workaround may have side-effects, such as inefficient JAR caching. See attached file, which will need to be renamed to have a "jnlp" extension.

Web Start: Omniscope Online now displays Web View

I'm using Omniscope v2.5, b319 and have built a report that has Web views on a few of the tabs. When I open this with Omniscope Online (exact same version and build), these Web Views display as Table Views. Any ideas?

Is it possible to customise a webstart launch page so that it opens a local file on either a local disk or a network share rather than on an http server? I have tried in the file name putting a file path such as c:\myfolder\myfile.iok or file://c:\myfolder\myfile.iok and neither work.

Custom JAR: JAR is an unsigned application?

All - On some of the PC's in my clients network, a problem occurs. The error message is attached.
What I understand from the error is that the local system sees the JAR file as an unsigned application.

Web Start: Another data viewer problem?

Hi all,

I've got a dashboard hosted on our server and it's linked to by a jnlp file. Now for the majority of people accessing the dashboard there isn't a problem but a view are getting the attached "file is corrupted" error message. The dashboard is password protected and domain locked so would this have anything to do with it?

I've recently saved the dashboard through the 2.7 version of Omniscope so could this be an issue?
Unfortunately the error message is very vague...

Free Viewer: Serverplus Edition & rebranding issue

We have recently found out that with the purchase of the ServerPlus Edition license allowing us rights to the use the unbranded free Viewer with Web Start. However, there are still areas where Visokio branding is shown.

These are as follows:
1)Under the File Tab when selecting Open Demo all of the free demos are shown which is not wanted or needed when pushing out to clients.
2)When selecting "About File" at the bottom a section titled "Creator" the message written can be e.g. 11225 using version "Visokio Omniscope Desktop 2.6-rc b791

These are the only 2 of the issues we have found so far but we may have overlooked others as well. Any solutions on fixing these please?
