Data source: RSS feed fails to update in Server Scheduler

Hi - I'm testing out the scheduler option in Omniscope Server and have built a simple IOK file pointing to the BBC News RSS feed which is scheduled to update every hour and collect the latest stories - http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml

The stories update with no problems in the IOK file DataManager file (using the desktop software), and also when setting up the scheduled event (in the server app), but when it subsequently tries to run in the scheduler I see the following error in the event log

Does anyone know of a reason why this would fail under scheduler when it works OK during setup? The Visokio Enterprise service is running under my name and license number. I've also tested the file OK in the desktop software installed on another machine with a different license.

Idea: Scheduler - Running 2+ jobs at one time

Hi - I was wondering how you run 2 jobs at once in the scheduler? We have a job that take 4 hours and it blocks everything else from running during this time. The server is powerful enough to do this. I assumed it was using "fork execution" but that does not work. - Thanks Neil

Scheduler: E-mail action for address with "_" not being sent?

Hi

I am sending to an email address using the Omniscope Scheduler and XML Actions combination

I have created an email address with "_" in the name and when I use this in the email send action configuration it does not send to the address recipients?

However there is no error message when i test this using the Omniscope XML descriptor and it says "Sent Successfully" but the reciepients do not receive the email?

Scheduler: PDF Batch date/time error?

All,

I get an error in one of our schedulers. The error is "DUMP BUG HANDLER Header Foutrapport Message Unable to re-parse: time -262800000 s 196901 f yyyyww"

This causes the batch output to skip files that needed to be generated. All PDF files that need to be published in this tasks are skipped.

Please advise asap.

Scheduler: Changing IOK File settings with Scheduler actions?

I couldn't find a specific task or action in the Scheduler so I thought I'd ask here: Is there a way to disable things such as sidebars (i.e. the main right sidebar) for an IOK file via the Scheduler or through other means, without opening it manually in a Desktop or Server environment?

Outputs: Changing Interface Mode in Viewer or by Scheduler?

Is it possible for a Viewer to change an IOK's interface mode from Classic to HTML5 browser version?

If not, is there a Scheduler action that can change the interface mode?

Essentially, we want a duplicate of an IOK to be saved as an HTML5 file, so the client can choose how to view their file.

Scheduler: Fields do not exist error?

We've been seeing an error with reports when we attempt to run them using the scheduler/watch folder that otherwise work fine when refreshed manually and published manually.

Basically it seems to think there are fields missing when it comes to publish later in the flow.
Two of the fields aren't there as they are deleted further up in the flow however Keyword is a field present at the end.
There are no erroring formulas further up or warnings when run manually.

The error is pasted below:

Error publishing block "Data file output 9"

Detailed information

Invalid fields: Fields do not exist - cannot execute:

Date
Campaign name
Keyword

Is this a known bug or something I've failed to notice?
Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

I found I can rebuild the offending flow from scratch exactly as before and this seems to remove the error (although it appears from a different flow and publish block).
Obviously I want to avoid having to rebuild the entire report block by block.

I would assume the blocks retain a certain amount of past configuration information as if I change a flow higher up and then change it back later it remembers some aggregate settings etc.
Could this be the issue and is there a way of clearing past configurations?

Scheduler: Propagate Failure in Chain Actions?

I have a Task List with a Chain Action set up with multiple tasks. The Propagate failure box is unticked however when anerror is encountered in one of the tasks, none of the remaining tasks are carried out. The failure action occurs as expected with an email sent with the log

What changes do I need to make to ensure that all the tasks listed below the one containing the error is executed?

Scheduler: creating XML Actions files in file output?

Hi guys,

In earlier versions of 2.7 it was possible to have a file output block that would create an xml file. This was basically just a straight text output so we could have a data manager setup that would batch append a number of files and then a field organiser that would create a number of small xml scheduler processes that would move the files into a "processed" folder. It seems in the recent versions of 2.7 and definitely in 2.8 this is much more complex (the xml output options put a number of preformatting in the output and doesn't pass "<" or ">" chars) - can we have this back as an option!!

Scheduler: Chains with PowerPoint output blocks?

We are facing issue in chains getting failed when any action contains Visokio file with PowerPoint output block in Visokio 2.7 Scheduler.

Note: when I run them manually from the Scheduler then it works perfectly without any errors.

Can anyone help me if we have missed any additional action to be added to get this published in time.

Hello all,

I have just upgraded my Omniscope license to ServerPlus and am keen to get it set up to automate all my reports. However, at first glance it does not appear to be possible to make it work in the way I would like.

Specifically, I need to be able to update and publish specific blocks within a file, instead of updating all or publishing all - in particular the publishing. For instance, I have daily reports that I provide internally to my colleagues, and weekly, timestamped reports that are sent out to clients. They both contain the same dataset (different templates though) and are published from the same DataManager file, but obviously I don't want to be publishing the weekly reports every day as, among other things, they would clutter up my server.

So what I need to know is, is this possible? I have looked through the documentation and I find no mention anywhere of updating/publishing named blocks. Any help would be much appreciated.

Outputs: Scheduler delivery of e-mails configuration - Exchange?

Hi - I'm trying to send an e-mail in case of failed refreshing of .iok files in a chain action (I attach a doc file with configurations applied).

Making a test, I get the error reported in the attached file (client does not have permissions to send as this sender).

I contacted our technical support that verified that connections with our MS Exchange server are ok. Using this connection, they were also able to send emails with the same sender from our Omniscope server using standard protocol smtp commands.

I'd like to know if I have to set some particular configuration (perhaps in the wrapper.conf file) to send emails from within the Omniscope Scheduler.

Scheduler: Empty DataManager after scheduling

Hi,

About one week ago we started to schedule automatic refresh of our .iok files using the Scheduler as windows service.
This morning it is the second time that after scheduling we find DataManager completely empty (as reported in the attached document). It happens only with one file (the one reported in the attached document).

Sincerely, the first time (few days ago) I though I've cancelled everything by mistake .... but after today I do not think so anymore.

From the generated log file it's possible to see that between opening and saving of this file no refresh is reported.

Scheduler: delay warning action

Available from 2.9 onwards, users can specify a "Delay warning action" for each Scheduler task:
in case a task is delayed for more than a specified time ("Warn if delayed by" option), the user defined warning action will be executed before the main action.

You can use this functionality in conjunction with "Skip if delayed by" to abort the main task also.

Hi - I am trying to run an external batch file process after Omniscope Server Scheduler has opened and saved an Omniscope IOK file.

Is there any way to do this in using the automated Omniscope Server Scheduler Task List actions?

I have been trying to use the Command action but this does not seem to work ??

Scheduler: Command line control of chained data flows?

Hi - I've different IOK files linked among themselves in a chain running as background process, and at the end of the chain there is the Report IOK file with the configured end user interface. Refresh of all files is automated, meaning that once opened, each file in the chain is configured to automatically refresh from the source(s) and load the Omniscope in-memory data set.

Currently, in order to refresh the Report IOK file with the end user interface I have to activate all the refresh links in the chain in a single process. What I need is a command line instruction to open, 'wait until process finish', save and close each IOK file in the chain. Someone can help me?. Thanks in advance - Alfonso

Scheduler: Setting failure email alert?

Hi - we are currently trialling server version of Omniscope 2.7 b123, it is installed on an Amazon Cloud machine image running Windows Server 2008

I have a scheduled task and want to set a failure alert email notification. I have found the screen where i need to input the smtp, port, user & password & SSL & message info

I have tried with a few email accounts - one my personal Hotmail, which i have the settings for on my IPhone.

FYI - Although MS Office is installed, but there is no email set-up in a non POP3 or IMAP email client like Outlook Exchange on the server.

All create an error message telling me that cannot connect to SSL and to check antivirus/firewall on the server. I have had infrastructure test the server and cannot find anything on the server that would be preventing this working? (screenshot attached in Word document)

Is there anything i am doing incorrectly, some setting i need to change, is this a known bug in the alpha 2.7 version?

We've been using the Scheduler a while now and have noticed some of our files are performing much slower than when manually updated. The iok's in question have two tasks performed on them

1. Refresh from Source
2. Publish

...then save (which does not take long)

My question on Scheduler is do these two tasks repeat the whole DataManager process - i.e refresh from source loads the data, runs the DataManager process, then loads data set into Omniscope (like refresh icon in top right of Omniscope?

Whereas publish in Scheduler will load the data, run the DataManager process and then publish to csv?

So, for a file where we only need to publish do we need to 'Refresh from source' in the Scheduler as well?

Scheduler, execute once

Hi,

We use the scheduler to perform a chain of actions. There are also chains that we do not use one a certain frequency.
Therefore it would be usefull to have a button, that executes the action once.

Now we do this by opening the action, clicking on "OK" and test the action. The disadvantage is that these "Test" activities are not logged in the log.txt.

Scheduler: running as a service versus running as application?

I am currently moving my scheduled tasks from an old Windows 2003 server to a Windows 7 box, both 64-bit.

As part of the migration, I am replacing a routine which created a long XML file and then started the Scheduler with one where a series of XML files are dropped into the watch folder. This has been successful, but I have discovered that sometimes the Service appears to time out, while the application does not, when an Oracle query takes a long time to return data. Is there a way of adjusting the time out of the service?

In addition there seems to a be a problem reading Excel files - I am about to try using the omniscope reader to fix this.

Scheduler: Running 3 Schedulers..port unavailable?

If you have a message "Port unavailable" in Scheduler, then some other application must be running and using this port. If you want to check which process is using your port, please, run following command from command window (CMD.exe):

netstat -ano > 1.txt

You'll get 1.txt text file in current directory. Open it with Notepad, you should find a line with your port number, e.g. if I want to find which process is using port :80 :

Remember PID number (e.g., for me it is 1564), then run following command:

tasklist > 2.txt

Idea: Scheduler - Starting times to update/publish output?

We have many tables which require to be updated once a day in IOK file from our database. Can we define the specific starting time (for each interval) to update and publish data, it will be helpful that we can define the time to be executed to avoid the peak load hour on the DB.

Then, we can schedule and control the updated time for each table to avoid the congestion?

Scheduler: Running multiple instances on one server?

Can we add to the Server Scheduler the ability to run two chain commands at the same time? For instance we have a weekly chain that runs for several hours as it pushes out 20 reports (obviously some of the data gathering takes some time in the background). We also have small updates that run ever 30 minutes. At this time, the large chain will finish and then it will run the 30 minute reports over and over to catch up.

Built into the system you can "test" a chain command which not stopping the currently running reports. It looks like the functionaliy is partically built into the system already.

I would like to request the Scheduler to run two chain commands at the same time, thus increasing the system utilization and in general running reports faster.
