Scheduler: multiple instances running many tasks?

Hi all,

We are having trouble with a rather strange problem within our Schedulers. On our server we have 4 Scheduler instances running simultaneously. The last few weeks some tasks that are scheduled were not started, and in the log these tasks do not appear at all.

Last week we thought we discovered a pattern in this problem. As we schedule many tasks rapidly after each other, the queue builds up. I think that when Omniscope is using a lot of RAM, this queue is forgotten. Another plausible reason could be that “garbage collection” or “diagnostics ”actions also delete this queue.

The problem is that we cannot recreate the situation, but when it happens, this problem obviously disturbs our processes.

We solved the problem in one particular situation by leaving more time between the different tasks in order to avoid accumulating a queue of undone tasks.

Hope you guys can explain how the queue works and what reasons could be causing this problem? Thanks!

Scheduler: Time out is always 300 seconds?

There have many scheduled tasks which some of them running on the same time. I selected 'Fork Scheduled Execution' option and set timeout for each task. Even I set timeout to '3000' but the task always failed after exceed 300 seconds. Do I need to set something? Please suggest. Thanks.

Scheduler: Ordering Task Lists-version 2.8

We're currently sharing one Scheduler Task List across multiple teams and our Task List is expanding. Is there any way to sort the tasks in alphabetical order? We have a fairly strict naming convention for the tasks and it would be nice to see all of the tasks in order.

Idea: Scheduler-Improving Log/Error tracking?

Is there a way to have Omniscope Server track all the jobs in a central location with run history? I know i can glean this from the Scheduler log, but when i have 50 jobs running nightly, it is very difficult to see if one ran in error...

Scheduler: Running from a 3rd party application?

We are trying to run Omniscope Scheduler from a 3rd party application by giving the path "C:\Program Files\Visokio Omniscope\OmniscopeEnterprise.exe" . We had prepared a schedule to run certain IOK files to process the data and publish them to tables. But do we have any facility to stop the scheduler once the data processing & publishing is over.

Actually our requirement is , when we have got new flat files, Our front end application will submit a request , this will trigger Omniscope Scheduler as we had provided the Omniscope Scheduler path. Once all the files are submitted, Omniscope Scheduler should stop and should close. Again if the front end application sends a request then Omniscope Scheduler should rerun and process the data and the Scheduler should stop after data is published.

Please let us know if we are doing it in a wrong way.

Scheduler: Log files relating to Task completion or error?

We are using the Scheduler as a service and have a few daily tasks scheduled. How can we see that all of these task are running properly in the log file? When I view the log file, I don't see that these tasks have completed or running into errors on a daily basis.

Scheduler: Install Scheduler on a different server machine?

Hi - Our customer bought the Server License and would like to install the Scheduler service on a different server machine than the machine running Omniscope Server, how can we do that?

Their idea is that the Scheduler should not run on the same machine as the file configuration interface, i.e. the client part (the Omniscope editor?).

Scheduler: Troubleshooting running as a Windows Service (2.8+)

Make sure you have followed the steps here.
Check the troubleshooting page.
Search the forums for similar issues.
Follow the workflow in the attached PDF to diagnose the problem.

Note: If you are trying to diagnose then the above still applies, however, for point 1 refer to here. Also, when going through the attached PDF workflow you do not need to follow the "Visokio Windows Service" section.

Scheduler: Setting failure email alert?

Hi - we are currently trialling server version of Omniscope 2.7 b123, it is installed on an Amazon Cloud machine image running Windows Server 2008

I have a scheduled task and want to set a failure alert email notification. I have found the screen where i need to input the smtp, port, user & password & SSL & message info

I have tried with a few email accounts - one my personal Hotmail, which i have the settings for on my IPhone.

FYI - Although MS Office is installed, but there is no email set-up in a non POP3 or IMAP email client like Outlook Exchange on the server.

All create an error message telling me that cannot connect to SSL and to check antivirus/firewall on the server. I have had infrastructure test the server and cannot find anything on the server that would be preventing this working? (screenshot attached in Word document)

Is there anything i am doing incorrectly, some setting i need to change, is this a known bug in the alpha 2.7 version?

Scheduler: Not running-Header Application Error?

Scheduler: XML Actions file options?

Hi guys - Apologies if this already exists elsewhere in the forum, I had a quick search and couldn't find it. A couple of questions:

Is it possible to create an XML Actions task script that will create multiple files (so for example, open a source file, refresh it, save it with a new location as an IOM, then save it with a different new location as a domain locked IOK)?

Secondly, is it possible to have the option to pass a specific empty IOK template file/location within an XML Action script, so (with the above example) open a source file, refresh it, save it with a new location as an IOM, using an empty template file developed from a different source?

Scheduler, execute once

Hi,

We use the scheduler to perform a chain of actions. There are also chains that we do not use one a certain frequency.
Therefore it would be usefull to have a button, that executes the action once.

Now we do this by opening the action, clicking on "OK" and test the action. The disadvantage is that these "Test" activities are not logged in the log.txt.

Tonight's build of 2.8 brings some simple time-saving improvements to the Scheduler UI.

You can now import/export/copy/paste any actions, tasks and recurrences.

From 2.8 b226 onwards.

Scheduler: Performance issue?

Hi - I have a problem on our new Server Edition. The Scheduler does the same action as I do manually. But the scheduler runs out of memory and when I do the same job manually it has enough memory.
Is this a setting somewhere? I adapted the installconfig to use more then 75% of the RAM. - Thanks

Scheduler: workaround for MS Office applications read/write issues

This only applies if you are running the Scheduler as a Windows service.

If you have Excel sources in your DataManager workflow, and the Reader type for the file block is Excel rather than different Omniscope Reader, then you may encounter the following problem (found in the Scheduler log):

Error communicating with Application. Please try again. Check for solutions here: http://www.visokio.com/kb/scheduler-troubleshooting style='font-size: 9pt; color: #666666'>Invoke of: Open
Source: Microsoft Excel
Description: Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:\Users\Visokio\Desktop\file.xlsx'. There are several possible reasons:

• The file name or path does not exist.
• The file is being used by another program.
• The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.

Possible solution, suggested on the msdn forum, is to create the following folders:
- C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
- C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop

If the above workaround does not work, then change the reader type to "Omniscope".

Idea: Scheduler - Starting times to update/publish output?

We have many tables which require to be updated once a day in IOK file from our database. Can we define the specific starting time (for each interval) to update and publish data, it will be helpful that we can define the time to be executed to avoid the peak load hour on the DB.

Then, we can schedule and control the updated time for each table to avoid the congestion?

Scheduler: Setting Task Time-outs?

Is there any way on the Omniscope Scheduler to stop XMLs droppped into the Scheduler if they take longer then a fixed time period to run?

I know there is an option in the Scheduler that automates the XML Actions file, however if you drop the xml into the Scheduler manually or through a separate automated file writing process.. Is there a piece of code I can add to the XML Actions file itself to stop the task if it takes longer than a fixed time? Thanks - Ben

Scheduler: Changing IP address/ports?

Is it possible to change the IP listener on the Schedulers port to open it up to external machine comminucation.
At the moment it is set to loop back IP 127.0.0.1: PORTNUMBER, and I would like to change it to either 0.0.0.0:Portnumber to allow any interface, or the machines external IP address.

Closest thing I've found so far is a Bind command, but it relates to the Admin connection, not the port that is used on the listener in the Schedulers XML conf file.
