Was having a play with Geometric Buffers today and these are great! The only issue is that what I really want to see is a Map Visual but also the map summarised in a table.

I have a buffer layer of 260 points across the UK with a 10km radius. This is overlayed on to another data file of 400,000 individual address with different classifications, i.e. Pubs, Shops etc. You can construct a pivot table along the Map that when you select an area the pivot table is changed to that area. However, what I want is a pivot table that is all the areas listed and what split of Pubs to shops are in their areas.

Does this make sense? I think you need to have the Buffer file as part of the dataset but when you have overlapping areas this proves difficult.

Any ideas or tips would be great.

I am trying to visualise some data on flight routes. The columns I have are:

I have connected the lines between the cities using long and lat coordinates.

I now want to put a label on the line to show the number of flights, or maybe change colour of line based on how many flights.

Is this possible?

Thanks

This feed allows you to connect an ArcGIS Server (or ArcGIS Online) and browse/select Feature Layers. After selecting one or more layers you can download this data as an Omniscope dataset. You can then visualise this data in a Map View.

Searches can be filtered on keywords or access levels and the results can be sorted on various fields.

In the screenshot below we have connected to ArcGIS Online and loaded United State boundaries which are shown on the Map View.

If you already have an ArcGIS Online account then you can use this functionality straight away. If you don't have an account then you can sign up at https://www.arcgis.com/home/signin.html.

Map View: Trans-pacific connections? http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2210/map-view-trans-pacific-connectionss Sun, 23 Jun 2013 19:55:55 -0400 DBuzacott 2210@/discussions
I'm using map view to visualise some airline itineraries. For example, a flight itinerary of MEL-DXB-LHR will draw a line from Melbourne to Dubai to London. Attached is a (very small) subset of the data so that you can see what I'm talking about.

This works great, but we're having an issue with trans-pacific flights - e.g. Auckland-Santiago, Sydney-Los Angeles etc. Because of the way that the map view is structured, the connecting lines do not cross the pacific but instead go the long way around over Asia/Africa/Europe. This is very poor visually as it further clutters those areas of the map, and is also somewhat of a misrepresentation of the routes themselves. I've also tried this with a few different maps (both 'online' and 'offline' worlds) but no luck.

So my question is this: is there a way to 'wrap' the map view so that you can run connectors across the Pacific?

Thanks, Daniel]]>
Map View: New GIS data files - Shapefiles, KML (2.8+) http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2132/map-view-new-gis-data-files-shapefiles-kml-2.8- Fri, 10 May 2013 12:13:13 -0400 steve 2132@/discussions Omniscope 2.8 Beta, you can now import data from ESRI Shapefiles (.shp) and Google Earth (.kml) files.

These files typically contain geographic data, such as points, polygons and polylines, with additional metadata.

Omniscope allows you to import this data as a flat table of fields and records, take advantage of the powerful ETL DataManager merging and transforming operations, and/or open in Omniscope for exploring and analysing in the Map and other views.

When imported into Omniscope, the data is treated no differently to non-geo data. You can filter and aggregate, for example. Typically two fields will contain the lat/lon coordinates of each point or vertex, and other fields might exist for metadata or path ID purposes.]]>

Configurable "Point" overlays show the additional dataset as reference points beneath the main data's markers. The "Spider" option shows links between overlay datapoints and main datapoints, such as linking the sales person to the customer.

"Line" overlays (where the additional dataset is a series of lines, each represented as a series of points) allow you to show routes, for example.

"Area" overlays (as per "Line", but where the path is closed and filled) allow you to show political or administrative areas, areas at risk from natural disaster, or areas within a certain distance of another area or point, for example.

All overlays are highly configurable and can be data-linked to the main datapoints - so overlay data will disappear or re-style as you filter in the sidebar.

You can also use area overlays to select data (by optional join field, or by geometry).

Note that the Map view's "Connect by" menu has also been extended to support equivalent additional functionality such as filled areas.

We have also introduced a Radial selection mode, allowing you to drag from a centre point outwards to select all points accurately within a given distance.

All overlays currently assume WGS84 coordinates.]]>

The boundaries I am looking for are from the NUTS regional classifications in Europe such as the ones given here:

http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page/portal/gisco/geodata/reference by selecting the "Administrative units/Statistical units"

The idea is to be able to use these map boundaries in conjunction with heat mapping so that defined areas can be coloured for a set of numerical variables.

An Example I would like to be able to emulate:

Map View: Geometric buffer operation (2.8+) http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2134/map-view-geometric-buffer-operation-2.8- Fri, 10 May 2013 12:23:26 -0400 steve 2134@/discussions Omniscope 2.8 Beta introduces the Geometric Buffer operation in DataManager.

Use this to transform geographic data imported typically from KML files or ESRI Shapefiles.

It includes the ability to convert point data such as building locations into circular areas representing a specified distance from that location (stored as a series of point records with a shared ID). You might use this to find the areas representing 5km from tube/subway stations, for example.

It also allows you to convert area (polygon) or line (polyline) data such as coastlines or zip code boundaries by enlarging outwards, subtracting inwards, or creating a "channel" either/both sides of the outline, according to a specified distance. You might use this to find the area representing 20 miles from the coast, for example.

The resulting geographic "areas" can be used as an overlay in the Map view.

Please be aware that buffering can multiply the volume of data by several 100 times, since each point can introduce many points to describe the area around the point/line. Also note that while point buffering is true to the Earth's shape, line/area buffering is done in Euclidean space, so is only accurate at the local level and becomes completely inaccurate when you have areas/lines covering a large proportion of the world. Only supports WGS84 coordinates.

2. Customers with Name, Salesperson ID and lat. long. coordinates

I want plot both customers and sales people locations on the same map, then draw a star map where lines are drawn between each customer and their allocated sales rep...How do I do this please?

I started by loading both files and merging on the ID. This created a file with two sets of latitude longitudes but I can only select one pair of coordinate columns for mapping?. So right now I either get a map with sales reps, or one with customers, depending on which coordinate fields I point the Map View to.

I presume that I should perhaps keep files separate but if so, is their a way to select these from the DataManager and apply to layers in some way. Or how should I do this please? Thanks

2. the second solution i can think of is to link the line/bar chart view to the map. However, that will only works if i highlight over the marker. is there any way in the map that i can click on the marker and it links to the bar/line chart. Currently, the click brings me to the detailed rows of the selected data.
