Java 8 bundling & compatibility in 2.9

We have been working on Java 8 compatibility in Omniscope 2.9 and have a first hotfix build ready for external testing. We've not fully completed internal QA on this yet, but expect it to pass with flying colours:

This comprises compatibility fixes for Java 8, and updating the version of Java bundled with the installed app to Java 8 (version 8u45).

Please try with your data files and publishing environments. Post back here if you find any issues.

Deployment: Java Web Start issues with version 5.1 update?

Java installations on recipient machines that do not have free Viewers fully installed have been updated to version 5.1 and is causing problems with Omniscope files & Viewers being deployed using Java Web Start.

Our users get errors and their iok files aren't launched. Probably the jar file must be updated?

Can you please have a look asap as this is causing serious delivery problems for us

Deployment: Java Web Start Issues with version 7 update 5?

Hi,

We have not been able to run the webstart jnlp file with Java update 51.
We can however run the webstart jnlp file with Java update 45 or lower.

Has anyone experienced any similar problems since the latest Java update?

Integration: Remote Operation Block documentation?

Hi. I cannot find any documentation or example usage for the Remote Operation block. Is there something available and I am just missing it?

How do the upload and download aspects of the Remote Operation block work? What do the server parameters do... are they added to the URL as URL parameters (e.g., http://www.example.com/myop?param1=foo¶m2=bar)?

Deployment: Web Start- Viewer not launching on Apple?

Hello, -Some of our clients who are using Apple laptops are encountering problems to open our Web Start deployed dashboards.

When the client clicks on the "Launch" Button the Web Start and JNLP Files are downloaded, but there the free Viewer application is not starting?

We tried hosting the Web Start deployments from both our server and the Visokio server. But neither did result in any differences.

Do we have to change settings for Apple users? Could this problem be connected to Java updates? What options regarding solutions do we have?

Installation: New Java version causing problems?

Hi all,

Since we've installed Java 7 version 11, the Java process on the Windows machine is eating CPU and memory. Even trying to open a block in Omniscope takes over 5 minutes. Problem occurs in both Omniscope 2.7 and 2.8 Alpha. Is there something we can do or should we return to a different Java version?

Deployment: WebStart - security issue?

We've recently had an update of our desktop software and, since then, I haven't been able to run my reports with WebStart. I get an error message:

Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system
Unsigned resource: http://downloads.visokio.com/omni27...

I don't pretend to understand the detailed message, but it contains the lines:

which looks like the sort of thing that would give our IT Risk people a major problem. Is there really a requirement for "*all* permissions" on my machine?

Edit 3rd Dec: I've spoken with some support people here and, although they weren't able to help directly, they mentioned that the "Unsigned" parts of the error message (newly highlighted above) may cause a problemwith our systems here.

Edit 5th Dec: Fwiw, the aforementioned "update of our desktop software" contained the following: Upgrade JRE to the new version 6u33

Deployment: Java Web Start not working?

There is a known problem with launching Omniscope Online (Web Start) if your system has Java 7 installed.

You will see "Java(TM) Web Start Launcher has stopped working". Expanding "Problem details" and looking for "Exception Code" matching "c0000417" will confirm this issue.

The problem is caused by a bug in Java 7. You should revert to Java 6, until this issue is resolved.

Alternatively, edit the JNLP file (e.g. in notepad) and remove the "codebase" attribute of the "jnlp" tag. If you are launching from our website, you will need to download and edit the JNLP file. If you are hosting your own JNLP file, you should edit the file on the webserver. This workaround may have side-effects, such as inefficient JAR caching. See attached file, which will need to be renamed to have a "jnlp" extension.

Omniscope Dashboards will not launch with Java Version 7 Update 6 installed. We are using Omniscope Version 2.6 b824.

Hi all,

I just updated my Java installation. It is now Java 7. When I open an Omniscope file, it shows a message that this Java edition is unkown to Omniscope. When can we expect that Omniscope recognises Java 7?
