Sometimes we notice that the final DM block indicates the full DM process is ready (by showing the Load button), while somewhere upstream some blocks are still running. Are you aware of this behaviour? And how can we prevent it?

Now we are using the server edition and we run some DM files in sequence in the scheduler. We have the feeling that some blocks haven't been completed because we miss some data in our final Omniscope files. A reason could be what I have described above: the final block was loaded in Omniscope too early. We can't check this however, as the scheduler runs these files in the background.

Can you please help as this is important for us. We must be able to trust the DM processes completely otherwise we are publishing incomplete information.

I turned on the Cycling Toolbar to test the functionality but then I turned it off. Now every time I open the file it cycles through all of the screens and won't let me stop it until it decides to hold on a screen--seems to be a different tab each time. Is there something I am doing wrong? I don't want the presentation to cycle through each time I open it. I have downloaded the most recent version and I continue to have this problem.

However, we are facing a problem we didnt expect..... The process runs so fast that some files are created in the same second. This means we loose the functionality of creating unique filenames.

To avoid this situation we need to slow down the scheduler process, of course something we do not want.
As a workaround we inlcude the File action 'Save iok' to win some time before the next file is generated.

We hope there is a better solution.
1 - have a least 1 or 2 seconds between file creation
2 - have another way to create a unique file name; ideal would be to use an ID field in the filename

I've tried to use b713 to see the feature and it simply does not work for my situation, reason being, the H, Q and W I use is different to the conventional calendar H, Q and W - year and week starts at a different date/day and some years have 52 weeks, others, 53.

This disappearing of the file is important for us as it serves as a form of data security, as files contain very sensitive data.

Now it appears that users still can open the downloaded file after closing the Viewer. The file is opened from the History list in the Viewer. I have tested this and what I see is that the file cannot be opened when the local machine is offline, but can be opened from the history list when there is an internet connection. This does raise some questions regarding security:

- Is the file stored on the local machine?
- Can the file be distributed to other machines?

Currently I have a field which is derived. I have converted this field to percentages. However, in trying to flash this out in a bar chart, it is showing a different percentages altogether.

I have tried toggling between 2 formula options and I realised that it is showing me the results if the "Calculate group result values over formula field results" option is selected instead of "Calculate formula field results for group result values" (both of which can be found under the Formula tab) - values of which I would want to show in the bar chart.

Is there any way to work around this?

I am using data manager as a method of making daily reporting more efficient. I normally use the "concatenate" formula in excel (not omniscope) before then importing these sheets into omniscope.

So, I have a field organiser that deletes columns i dont need which are automatically generated from our customer. I see in here i can input a new field and set this as a formula- but what is the omniscope equivalent to Excels concatenate? Alternatively I know it is possible to merge columns together (product description, variety, pack size etc).

Finally, is there a function to delete off ROWS? I get the first 22 as a summary of what ive downloaded and want to delete this.

I've got an iok file that's around 15Mb in size with a million rows of data and 34 fields (7 are formula fields). At the moment it takes around a minute to move from one tab to another which is preventing us from being able to deliver this to our client (both in terms of the slow performance and that the clients' machines will probably run out of memory when they try to open the file). Are there any techniques to improve performance apart from converting the formula fields to static values (which would mean we'd lose functionality) or moving the data manager element to a separate file (I've already got 3 other iok files feeding into it)?

FYI - I'm running the 64 bit version of Omniscope on a 64 bit Windows machine with 8Gb of RAM.

My table shows in each cell a unique value count of a certain variable (number of locations).
The valuecount is on location ID.
My totals row at the bottom must show the sum of these unique counts. However, it is calculating based on the unique count function in stead of the sum function.

Can I manipulate this? I can't see the use of having a totals row that shows the number of unique values in a column.

I am currently using the 52 week moving average option within a line graph. However, I am have 51 weeks where there is no data being shown (I have a separate graph showing the absolute numbers throughout the time series). Is anyone aware of any way that I can reduce my x-axis to remove this blank area without having to manually specify which weeks I want to be active so that I can keep the chart as dynamic as possible? Or if not, does anyone know of anyway to overlay one graph over another, enabling me to hide/reduce the blank area?

I frequently - not every time - get errors when I refresh the file from the database. In the past I've seen out-of-range errors. I've just received this one:

"An unexpected error occurred calculating formula values"
* ClassCastException {class java.lang.ClassCastException No stack trace available}
* "Field: Measure"
* "Record: 4"
* "Expression: IF ([Which] = "Engagements", [Engagements],
IF ([Which] = "Charges", [Project Charge],
IF ([Which]= "FTE", [Project FTE])))"

In every case when I examine the formula in the formula editor, I see "No errors". When I inspect the record that is listed in the error report, I can see nothing out of the ordinary. In the case above the 3 values in Record 4 were, respectively 1, 631.66, 0.02. Of course, "Measure" did not get populated for most of the data set.

When I did a further data refresh I saw no error message and "Measure" was fully populated. However, the Formulas menu on the table view was red and when I selected "View last formula error" it opened the formula editor for "Measure" - which , again, reported "No errors"

I have an IOK file which contains only 500K records in 70 columns, but it does not seem to perform (click on a filter and it takes 8 seconds to change the view :-s). I'm using a high performance machine (Quadcore, solidstate HD, 4GB ram) but I do run 32bit OS. This will limit my ram availability, but i need it to work also for simple users with simple desktops so this shouldn't be an issue.

To solve this issue, I got the following remarks:

"To optimise your Report file for 32-bit machines, we need to put the existing columns into 4 categories:

A. Columns we really don’t need to send into the 32-bit client world, that can be held only in the Source/Analysis IOK file on the server that in turn refreshes the Report IOK
B. Columns whose information can be summarised via formulae in the Source IOK file, reducing the total columns in the Report IOK file
C. Columns which can be summarised using the Summarise columns transformation to put multiple values into one cell prior to transfer to the Report IOK file as a string of human-friendly text
D. Columns which can be collapsed into fewer columns using Collapse columns before refreshing to the Report IOK file.

In general, values required for filtering need to be maintained in a column format that filters, whereas other columns values can be combined and tokenised such that they are still searchable, but not necessarily filterable row by row..
Once we have categorised all the columns and cloned this file into Server IOK (refresh from source(s) with all columns and heavy calculations) and a child Report IOK (fewer total columns) we can look at further steps to reduce the max RAM footprint and improve the tab-to-tab performance of this Report IOK file."


I did remove some unused columns (A.), but without performance increase. The other options are not usable for me because I can't aggregate/summarize the data on a higher level, nor can I combine columns because they are used seperately in metrics, grids/graphs, filters etc.

I would like to get into contact with someone who can help me with this.

I am using a filter/device for company names (my filter type is text search). I want to enable tokenised text, so that user can enter multiple company names to view their data. I am using tokenised and using a comma (,) to separate company names. But when I test it using two company names, separated by a comma then it returns 0 results. (both the companies have data available in my Table view). I also tried using a semicolon (;) but to no effect. Could someone please help me.

Hi - I have put a spreadsheet File source and a Field organiser on my DataManager workspace pallette. I have changed the format of some fields (eg the data input format M/d/yyyy and have set the output/save format to yyyy-MMM-dd and have removed the thousand separator in several fields). When I load it into Omniscope, these changes are lost. It is as if the Reset All button has been clicked.

Just tested again (see attached).

1. default position for column NIC is that thousand separators are shown
2. untick thousand separators and the Load button appears
3. Click load and data displayed without separators
4. collapse the NIC column in the field organiser and the Load buttoin appears again
5. Click Load
6. Thousand separators appear again but if you expand the NIC column it says they are off.
