Better performance. The old pivot view would often take a long time to calculate and update, particularly when working with large data-sets. You should find the new pivot view much quicker to work with.
You can now select multiple measures. The old pivot view only allowed you to select a single measure.
You can now select any field in the X and Y axis. In the old pivot view you were limited to selecting a single field.
The new Pivot view allows you to tile by one or more fields. Each tile will show a separate Pivot table.
There is now much more flexibility for configuring the look and feel of the pivot view. For example, on the view toolbar you can click the "Preset" button and choose to show the data as a grid or a table. More advanced options that allow you to configure options such as the pane height, label positions etc. are available in the "Layout" and "Style" view toolbar menus.
The new pivot view includes more colouring options. You can now colour by the measure value, the measure name (useful when more than one measures are selected), by a single field or by a fixed colour.
Please let us know if you encounter any problems using the new pivot view, or if you have any ideas/suggestions of things we can improve.]]>New: "Search/replace" now supports RegEx and Wildcards (2.9+)
http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2457/new-searchreplace-now-supports-regex-and-wildcards-2.9-
Mon, 27 Jan 2014 08:02:11 -0500victor2457@/discussions
You can now use wildcards (* and ? ) in the "Search for" field for a simple, yet powerful, search/replace...or you can use full-fledged Regular Expressions (RegEx) which can read and even re-write almost any text string to bring out visual and filtering patterns implicit in raw unstructured data.
The regular expression syntax and replacement patterns are the same as the ones used in the formula function REPLACEREGEX. For a complete reference of the RegEx syntax, visit http://www.regular-expressions.info/]]>New: Bookmarks - Import/export link (2.9+)
http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2445/new-bookmarks-importexport-link-2.9-

Import bookmarks. This option allows you to import all the bookmarks saved in a bookmarks XML file. This file can be located on your own computer, on a network location or somewhere in the cloud. Any bookmarks that you import will be embedded in your local bookmark file, so any edits you make will be made locally and will not edit the bookmarks XML file.
Link to bookmarks. This option allows you to link to a bookmark XML file. You can link to a file on your own computer, a file on a network or a file somewhere in the cloud. Linked bookmarks cannot be edited, and are updated every time you open DataManager. You can trigger a manual refresh by selecting the linked bookmark and clicking the "Refresh" button in the bookmarks toolbar. If the linked bookmarks file is deleted they will no longer appear in your bookmarks the next time the list is updated. Linking to bookmarks allows you or your company to create a central bookmarks file that can be managed by an administrator and linked-to by multiple Omniscope users. If, for example, a database password changes, only a single update is required to propagate that change to all users.
Export all bookmarks/Export folder. These options allow you to export all your bookmarks or a selected folder to a bookmarks XML file. After exporting, other Omniscope users can either import or link to the bookmarks. You can choose to export bookmarks to your local computer, a network location or somewhere on the cloud. Any passwords defined in any of the sources or outputs that you export will be encrypted.
Please let us know if you have any questions or ideas for improving this feature.

http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2379/installation-omniscope-server-on-amazon-ec2-linux
Wed, 16 Oct 2013 05:11:46 -0400istvan2379@/discussionsSetting up an Omniscope Server on an EC 2 instance on Amazon
Register an account at http://aws.amazon.com/ it will ask for email address, contact address and credit card details
Got to http://aws.amazon.com/ and select My Account/Console -> AWS Management Console and click "EC2"
Click the "Launch Instance" button
Select "Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 LTS" (or whatever is the latest LTS release) 64 bit version
Select at least an m1.large instance type(Memory optimized image highly recommended)
Under "Configure Security Group" ensure that SSH and HTTP are added, if not present please add them.
Secure the ".pem" file, because that will be required for logging into the server and click "Launch Instances"
The Instance should be available under the menu "Instances" in the "EC2 Dashboard"
Click on the instance click the "Connect" button from the top, it will show the full ssh command to connect to the machine (ssh -i yourkey.pem ubuntu@yourpublicdns). A Java SSH client is also available from Amazon that can be used directly from the browser. We also recommend Putty for Windows.
We also recommend using Beyond Compare for Windows which natively supports SCP URLs such as scp://ubuntu@yourpublicdns/
Configuration changes must be made manually in the XML, typically by configuring a separate Windows installation (you’ll need another test key for Omniscope Server) and deploying “C:/Users/username/omniscope-server/config.xml” to the Linux server.
For example, you can configure usernames and passwords, and can enable web-based “file management” (upload, delete etc.).
You can additionally create “folder.xml” files within different sub-folders of the “sharing folder” for folder-specific users and permissions. See “folder.xml.default” automatically created on first start in the sharing folder.

Thu, 10 Oct 2013 13:02:24 -0400antonio2371@/discussionsAdmin Web Server
It serves a web application that allows users to admin Omniscope Server and provides:
Logs management: where users can visualise and download server logs
Health monitoring: where users can monitor the health status of the server, download the error reports and delete them.
By default it runs on localhost to allow only local machine access. It is recommended that you make sure you configure the Admin Web Server to use HTTPS.
The web application requires authentication, and at first run it will ask the user to register the admin account.
In future it will allow users to fully manage Omniscope Server and services configuration simply from a web browser, without having to start the Omniscope Server application UI. ]]>Linux: Server version (2.9+) available for Ubuntu+CentOS

http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2311/server-hosting-html5-browser-versions-2.9-
Fri, 06 Sep 2013 07:51:57 -0400steve2311@/discussions To try Mobile in Omniscope 2.9, you can use your Desktop license and use "Desktop sharing" to one external device or browser. If you have a Server license, you can also use the Server app for production hosting of web-based reports.
After upgrading to 2.9, refresh your license from "Help > Licensing & activation" after installing 2.9, to be sure you have access. If you need help or a separate trial license of Server, for example, please email support@visokio.com.
What’s Omniscope Mobile?
Omniscope Mobile is effectively a new version of Omniscope built from scratch upon HTML5 standards. You need to host a server, then can view and explore reports with full interactivity on modern desktop browsers, ipads and other tablets, without any end-user installation or data-related memory requirements.
See https://omniscope.me/public for a simple demo server. Better still, use your own data on your own server...
Installing and activating Omniscope
Download and install the latest 2.9 from http://www.visokio.com/zan and refresh or activate your installation using your Omniscope licence key (see above). If installing on a Linux server, be sure to customise with sufficient memory, automatic on other platforms.
Omniscope 2.9 is currently in Beta. It’s feature-complete, and suitable for production use subject to your own external testing. Please report any errors or instability using the top-right "3 dots" menu > "Report error".
“Desktop Sharing”, "New interface mode" and “Server”
Your licence key gives you access to two distinct ‘views’ of Omniscope Mobile: "Desktop Sharing" (and the "New" interface mode), and "Server".
Desktop Sharing
Available in Desktop licenses (not in the free Viewer). To get started:
Open an IOK file in the desktop Omniscope app.
Click Settings menu > Web sharing > Viewing link (If you have a slightly older version of 2.9, Main toolbar > Mobile > Viewing link)
This will open a Mobile version of your file in a browser.
Use Settings menu > Web sharing to enable sharing with another device on your network or the internet.
Omniscope Desktop now bundles a lightweight web server for short-term use, such as previewing in your own web browser (e.g. so you can refine your IOK file for Mobile restricted functionality), or demoing to a colleague or client similar to screen-sharing. It is included from the Desktop edition of Omniscope, and limited to 1 remote client, so cannot be used as a production server.
New interface mode
If you are publishing by distributing IOK files to the free Viewer, you can now choose the "New" Mobile interface mode within the same desktop app in 2.9, browser-based via a bundled embedded browser. This improves performance and responsiveness, and reduces memory requirements. To try this:
Open an IOK file in the desktop Omniscope app.
Click Settings menu > Interface mode > New (If you have a slightly older version of 2.9, Main toolbar > Mobile > Slide from Desktop to Mobile)
Omniscope will change to the new mode, supporting navigating tabs, selecting and filtering and changing data titles such as "Split" and "Pane".
Use File menu > Save to make the file open like this when opened by your target audience (providing they've upgraded to 2.9).
Server
To get started:
Launch the Omniscope Server shortcut.
In the server app UI, you’ll see an additional “Omniscope Web Server” service in addition to “Scheduler”. In this section...
If not running, click “Config” and tick “Enable server”, then click “Start”.
Click the “Sharing folder” link, and drop some IOK files here.
Click the “Serving at” link and explore Mobile versions of your IOK files.
Use the “Config” button to configure permissions, users, web-based uploads, bind address/port, etc.
Create “folder.xml” files (a default is provided) to customise permissions per folder. Edit these using Settings > Server > Edit folder.xml configuration (Desktop app) or Settings > Edit folder.xml configuration (Server app).
Omniscope Web Server is a simple and robust production web server which reflects a configurable sharing folder of IOK files. This can be local, or a network share, and is effectively an IOK-only “webroot” folder.
It includes HTTPS support, and works out of the box with a self-signed certificate. This means you will be able to test/demo with all exchanged data between client and server fully encrypted and secure, although you'll get a warning in the browser about the server certificate - in other words, the browser won't be able to confirm the server's identity. You can then buy and install a HTTPS SSL certificate verified by a well-known certificate authority (CA), to remove this browser warning. Read here on how to configure the SSL Mobile Web Server section. Public sites without user authentication can skip this and use HTTP instead of HTTPS, but if you need to authenticate with usernames and passwords, you should use HTTPS.
There's no direct database connectivity. To provide this, you'll need to use Scheduler (on the same or different server) to keep IOK files in the sharing folder up to date. Or manually add/replace IOK files in the sharing folder. See Client-side auto-refresh for details on configuring how the client handles updates to the server IOK.
If using linux, configurations must currently be made at a desktop login session on a Windows or Mac, and transferred across via the config.xml file. For now, it’s advisable to test and explore Mobile using Windows or Mac. Web-based admin will be included in the next version.
Notes
Unavailable functionality
In 2.9, we are only supporting a (large) subset of Omniscope Viewer functionality. An IOK file with unsupported settings will generate warnings in the Warnings menu in the browser. You need to remove these unsupported configurations from your IOK file to remove the warnings from your published report. Notable unsupported features:
Custom styling (Only two presets, Analysis and Paper Report supported)
Chart, Devices, Venn, Portal, Radar views
Platform support
Omniscope Mobile is actively supported on the following client devices and browsers:
Windows - IE9+, Chrome, Firefox, inc. Windows 8 tablets
Mac - Safari, Chrome
iPad - Mobile Safari
Android 4.x+ tablets - Chrome
Omniscope Mobile will not work on Internet Explorer 8 or lower. Other browsers (for example, Opera), and devices (for example, early Android tablets) are not actively supported as of yet - the application may work, however. Small-screen devices (phones) will work on recent iOS or Android 4.x versions, but the IOK file will need reconfiguring to make best use of the small screen estate. Omniscope Mobile's architecture is designed to perform well on good 3G connections or better.]]>Radar View (Omniscope 2.8+)
http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2136/radar-view-omniscope-2.8-
Tue, 14 May 2013 08:36:59 -0400antonio2136@/discussions The radar plot, also referred to as 'spider plot' or 'star plot', can be very effective in visualisation of multivariate data.
Radar View has 2 main ways to present your data:
Standard radial layout
Classic way of plotting values of each category along a separate axis/spoke laying them out in a radial style.
Parallel coordinates
It lays out parallel axes and plots the data elements across several dimensions. Each dimension corresponds to one vertical axis, and the data elements are displayed as series of connected points along the axes.
Currently 4 different presets allow you to switch between the different styles and layout settings:
Lines: in radial layout paints polygon lines only
Lines and Fills: in radial layout paints lines and filled polygons
Fills: in radial layout paints filled polygons
Parallel Coordinates: in vertical layout paints lines
Regarding scale options you can switch between:
Vertical Common: A scale will be displayed on the vertical axis, all measures will be proportional to each other.
Hidden: Same as Vertical Common but no scale will be displayed
Independent: No scale will be displayed. All measures will be normalised independently.
To fully customise your Radar view, you can play with the following style/layout options:
From the Style drop-down menu:
Show: Markers, Lines, Fills
Line opacity
Line thickness
Fill opacity
N.B. these options are also per measure available.
From the Spoke drop-down menu:
Colour spokes
Show range label on spokes
Pad spokes at center
Spokes transparency
Spokes thickness
Spokes layout
Here are some common use cases, where the Radar view is the perfect data visualisation plot:
1) Comparing predicted vs actual data:
2) Presenting hourly data:
3) Observe distribution of data across different dimensions (multivariate data) with parallel coordinates layout:
4) Displaying tiles of different "shapes", to visually compare different products/campaigns/individuals

Tue, 13 Aug 2013 12:44:01 -0400chris2285@/discussions In the latest version of Omniscope 2.9 (b341) we have added two ESRI geocoding services. These are available in the "Geocode" operation.
Esri (batch). This will geocode locations in batches. Only one result (the best match) will be returned per location. This is useful when you want to geocode a large number of locations.
Esri (multi match). This will return a configurable number of matches per location. You can use the "Max matches" option to specify the maximum number of locations to return per location value.
Both of these services require an ArcGIS account. You can choose to use the ArcGIS online server or a custom server location (for example your own ArcGIS deployment).

http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2265/mapping-geocode-operation-replacing-formula-functions-2.8-
Sun, 28 Jul 2013 09:27:19 -0400chris2265@/discussions In the latest version of Omniscope 2.8 (b1057) we have removed the GEOCODELAT and GEOCODELONG functions. If you try to use either of these functions Omniscope will now show an error and you will not return any data. If you have any Omniscope files that use either of these functions you should remove them. These functions were removed because both of the providers used (Yahoo and Cloudmade) are no longer available for free; they both charge a fee for using them and require an additional billing and authentication sequence. This would not be possible to include inside a formula function.
As an alternative we have now added the "Geocode" operation. To use this operation in DataManager, connect the operation to a block with a field containing location data that you would like to geocode. After connecting you can select which geocode service you would like to use. After selecting the service you can then configure the service and execute the operation to obtain your geocoded data.
In Omniscope 2.8 we have added a single Geocoding service: Yahoo. In Omniscope 2.9 we will be adding an ESRI geocoding service. Please let us know if there are any alternative services you would like us to add.
Because Yahoo is now a paid-for geocoding service you need to sign up to Yahoo to use it. To sign up you need to create a Yahoo account and then create a Yahoo BOSS auth key and enter your payment details.
The following help page from Yahoo outlines the process:
Once you have signed up you can enter your OAuth consumer key/OAuth consumer secret into the Geocode operation to geocode your data.
It might be advisable to set an upper limit on the amount of money charged for using the geocoding service per month, just incase you inadvertently try and geocode a large number of records. This can be configured in the setup process.
In the screenshot below you can see we are using the Yahoo Geocoding service to geocode two locations:
There are several advantages of using a Geocode operation rather than a geocode function:
It's easier to manage and maintain. To edit a function you need to use a field organiser, locate the formula field and then edit the formula. Typically you will be using both GEOCODELAT and GEOCODELONG so if there are any changes you need to edit both of these. The Geocode operation is much easier to locate and change as necessary.
You can obtain more data. The GEOCODELAT and GEOCODELONG functions only return the corresponding lat/long values. With the Geocode operation you can obtain additional data. In the Yahoo geocode service there are around 25 additional fields such as "quality," "city" and "country". You can select which fields you want to include when you retrieve your data.
You can obtain multiple matches. The GEOCODELAT and GEOCODELONG functions only returned the lat/long values for the best match. In the Yahoo service you can enter a "Count" parameter. This can be used to specify the maximum number of results to return per location. In the example above we have used a count of "3" and obtain 3 results for "Chelsea".
Please let us know if you have any comments or questions about these changes.

Sun, 28 Jul 2013 06:55:02 -0400chris2264@/discussions We have now added a ReportBuilder option to the Omniscope DoubleClick connector in the latest version of Omniscope 2.9 (264). The DoubleClick connector now allows you to choose whether you want to run a report from either Report Central (old) or Report Builder (new). In the Report Builder options we have tried to replicate the web interface. We have currently implemented 3 reports (Standard, Floodlight and Path to conversion). We have also added the ability to download a pre-existing server report, so you can configure a report in the web interface and download it into Omniscope.
The screenshots below show a Standard report and a server report:
We would be interested in any feedback you have. Please let us know if you have any problems using the connector or if there is any additional functionality (for example additional reports) you would like to see.

http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2245/styling-distributable-brandingstylebookmarks-2.9-
Tue, 16 Jul 2013 18:14:37 -0400mustafa2245@/discussions In addition to their current use cases, ILF files can now be used to distribute branding packs, organisational style presets and data source bookmarks.
You can now export settings fro a reference installation as ILF files you can distribute to others as e-mail attachments, via shared/synchronised folders, etc. When an installed Omniscope user double-clicks the ILF file, Omniscope will automatically install its contents in that installation, where it will affect all files managed on that installation.
Note: the ILF extension automatically associated with Omniscope when at install time.
Current use cases of ILF export/import files
Shortcut to the original file - for example instructing Omniscope to open a file from a URL written inside the ILF file. This approach is typically used with the domain locking file security settings.
Distribute your saved bookmarks in DataManager with others in form of an ILF file. On double-clicking the ILF the bookmarks will be installed on the user's machine.
How to create: Settings > (Application-wide) Advanced > Tools > Create distributable bookmarks…

http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2228/security-overview-of-omniscope-file-based-security-options-
Thu, 04 Jul 2013 14:31:20 -0400tjbate2228@/discussions It is good practise to always time-limit IOK files containing important data. If the files fall into the wrong hands, even if they are unlocked and otherwise unsecured, the proprietary Omniscope encryption and compression should hold the unauthorised users off the data for a few days until the IOK file 'times out', at which point no one can gain access to the data, no matter how much hacking they employ (assuming you use the Omniscope option to set the files to confirm the date/time independently from an Internet source outside the machine running the file. If you don't use this option, time-limiting can be defeated by changing the system clock on the machine running the file).
The best security is multiple, independent, layered security spanning both network/identity based, and file-based security. Omniscope permits file level security options to be added on top of network-based security to achieve multi-level security you can tailor. Omniscope file security options are outlined here:
Running analytics and reporting projects on instantly-available virtual, cloud-based, high-RAM machines makes a lot of sense, but many are reluctant to do this because they fear that their data in the cloud can be stolen. If you use an SQL database as the source in the cloud, this is much more likely than if you use a set of Omniscope IOK files as the source, provided you fully employ the range of layered independent security options Omniscope supports.]]>Connectors: Integration with Apache FTP library

Fri, 28 Jun 2013 12:18:56 -0400antonio2218@/discussions So in case of DataManager blocks struggling to open remote sources from FTP server, or Omniscope not able to open/export files from/to remote FTP server, you may try to enable the "Use Apache FTP Client" option into the "Settings > Advanced > Networking" menu, restart Omniscope, and then test the action again.]]>Map View: New GIS data files - Shapefiles, KML (2.8+)
http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2132/map-view-new-gis-data-files-shapefiles-kml-2.8-
Fri, 10 May 2013 12:13:13 -0400steve2132@/discussionsOmniscope 2.8 Beta, you can now import data from ESRI Shapefiles (.shp) and Google Earth (.kml) files.
These files typically contain geographic data, such as points, polygons and polylines, with additional metadata.
Omniscope allows you to import this data as a flat table of fields and records, take advantage of the powerful ETL DataManager merging and transforming operations, and/or open in Omniscope for exploring and analysing in the Map and other views.
When imported into Omniscope, the data is treated no differently to non-geo data. You can filter and aggregate, for example. Typically two fields will contain the lat/lon coordinates of each point or vertex, and other fields might exist for metadata or path ID purposes.]]>Scheduler: delay warning action
http://forums.visokio.com/discussion/2170/scheduler-delay-warning-action
Tue, 28 May 2013 08:40:01 -0400antonio2170@/discussionsin case a task is delayed for more than a specified time ("Warn if delayed by" option), the user defined warning action will be executed before the main action.
You can use this functionality in conjunction with "Skip if delayed by" to abort the main task also.
